The ex-girlfriend of Kendra Hatcher’s boyfriend told police she loaned a Jeep to Crystal Cortes, 23, (pictured right) to drive an unknown male to Hatcher’s parking garage to rob her and steal her driver’s license.
Hatcher, 35, was shot to death in the parking garage of the upscale Gables Park 17 apartments on Sept. 2.
Police arrested Cortes on Friday and charged her with capital murder. Her bail was increased from $250,000 to $500,000 on Sunday.
According to newly released police affidavits obtained by News8, the ex-girlfriend dated Hatcher’s boyfriend, “Ricky”, for two years before she ended their relationship earlier this year.
News outlets aren’t reporting the ex-girlfriend’s name because she has not been charged. But Internet sleuths found her on Facebook.
On April 10, 2013 the 33-year-old dental hygienist professed her love for “Dr. Ricky” in a Facebook post. She wrote: “I love you with all my heart and can’t imagine life without you!”
Hatcher began posting Facebook photos of herself and “Ricky” all over her Facebook page in June.
Cortes told police the ex-girlfriend used an iPhone app to stalk Hatcher by tracking the dentist’s iPhone.
After police released video stills of a Jeep Cherokee, a man recognized his Jeep on the news and called the police to report he loaned his 1996 Jeep Cherokee to Ricky’s ex-girlfriend.
Police contacted the ex-girlfriend who said she loaned the Jeep to Cortes.
Police interviewed Cortes who admitted the ex-girlfriend offered her $500 to drive an unknown male to the parking garage to steal Hatcher’s driver’s license.
According to the affidavit, the $500 would be paid to Cortes in exchange for Hatcher’s driver’s license.
Cortes told police the man she drove to the parking garage was the same man who shot Hatcher and then stole the dentist’s personal belongings. Cortes said she did not know Hatcher.
Investigators later recovered a .40-caliber shell casing from the front passenger seat of Hatcher’s white Toyota Camry.
Police arrested the ex-girlfriend on outstanding traffic warrants on Friday. She was released on Saturday.
According to the affidavit, police removed a laptop computer from the ex-girlfriend’s apartment. Police did not say if they found Hatcher’s driver’s license or cell phone during a search of the ex-girlfriend’s apartment.
