Janet Hubert, aka the original mom on Fresh Prince of Bel Air, put Jada Pinkett-Smith on blast for joining Spike Lee in calling for a boycott of the Oscars Awards.
It seems Mrs. Smith’s agenda is a self-serving one. She is reportedly upset that her husband Will Smith was not nominated for an Oscar for his role in the flop movie Concussion.
Hubert took to Facebook.com to drag Jada unmercifully.
“Girl please, why are you always speaking for your man?” Hubert said in a video posted on Facebook. “It was the best performance of his career, which says this is the best performance HE has ever done, not necessarily academy worthy.”
Apparently Hubert is still bitter over her premature departure from the popular ’90s sitcom after she demanded more money and was shown the door instead.
“Now you want other actors to support your cause and be blacklisted in Hollywood as I was because of your lying ass husband,” Hubert said.
On Tuesday, talk show Diva Wendy Williams made a similar point by suggesting Jada is calling for a boycott of the Oscars because Will Smith wasn’t nominated.

Ummm… Will Smith and the Smiths in general are very much into social activism for black rights. If you just google will smith black lives matter (for one) you’ll note that he has donated to specific individuals who have been victims of racial injustice. He has a production company that is involved in funding documentaries of black stories and so forth.
I don’t follow the Smiths (or any other celeb closely for that matter), but just because we don’t necessarily hear about it and it’s not publicized doesn’t mean they don’t do it.
Jada has self interest in this, but she isn’t the only one who is petitioning for black celebrities to boycott the Oscars. There is pressure from the black community on Chris Rock as well to step down as a host….

I think this is very important… i also think, however, perhaps more refined black celebrities would show up to our award shows if we made an effort to use more discretion in what we lift or at least be inclusive to uplift more things. For the most part, black celebs [in general I don’t know about the Smiths], do tend to show up to the NAACP Image Awards as they definitely seem to hold their members to a higher caliber. Additionally, it’s POC which I’ve noticed has extended to other minorities of color as well (and whites attend).

The ridiculousness of this post is unreal. Jada’s point was completely missed by SR, Wendy, & Janet H. The #OscarsSoWhite were trending on Twitter long before Jada suggested a boycott. Last year celebs were also pissed about the lack of minorities nominated for Oscars! The point is, we’re regressing, in terms of progress in cinema and music. Our films and our music are not being recognized on a national acclaimed level. These organizations, like the Grammy’s and the Oscars, are supposed to celebrate and recognize the best in music and cinema. Why should we be excluded from our (rightful) recognition of our artistic abilities? The shit is shameful.
And while I do agree that we should celebrate and recognize our own in music, television, and cinema, the truth is, black folks hate each other and can’t be in the same space for very long before some mess starts popping off. Spike Lee touched on your point. Yes, a lot of our lack of nominations does come down to what studios are and aren’t willing to green light. Which is why we’re left with comedies like Ride Along etc., However, think about films like Selma, Creed, SOC etc, how is it that the black actors were shut out, but the Sylvester and the yt writers for SOC were nominated? Idris and Will Smith did an amazing job on their films and were still snubbed. Yet Jlaw has been nominated 4x for an Oscar? Some of these nominated films weren’t great or even Oscar worthy, yet they’ve been nominated? I think blacks have become so conditioned to having to be 10x better than the next yt guy, that they start to believe that they’re mediocre, when theyre not.

I’ve been in situations before where folks have perceived me as being aggressive or angry..simply because they see most if not ALL Black women as being that way. What I call speaking “passionately” other folks perceive as neck rolling and tongue sucking. NOT because that’s how I spoke, but because that’s how they perceive ANY Black woman who dares speak up for herself.
An AA woman with a strong voice and a straight spine..who speaks up for herself…is more oftentimes than not—viewed as the banshee with the problem, who causes problems. SMH.

Honestly, I don’t know. Katherine Heigel has also been labeled difficult and you see how fast her career hit the skids. I think it’s harder for people in positions of power (this includes men AND women) to work with women (especially black women – cause we’re expected to be GRATEFUL to be able to work in ANY setting – corporate Amerikkka or Hollywood) who are assertive, aggressive, and ambitious. They’re intimidated by it.
But, like the other poster said, as women (particularly women of color) we have to pick our battles. From what I’ve heard, about Janet H, her complaints were that Will was disrespectful and unprofessional. Would blast rap music and would just be disrespectful in general. I don’t know, that would annoy the hell out of me. Especially if I have the same credentials as Janet. You want to work with professionals and people who have a respect for the craft that they’re doing – and when you don’t have that, or you’re working with someone who takes their opportunities for granted, it would piss me off too.

I strongly agree that if we don’t stand for something we will fall for anything. I think it should be boycotted because truthfully speaking the Oscar’s are geared to honor Caucasian’s. plain and simple. I think they believe if they invite or ask one of us to host (Chris Rock) then this should make us hush and satisfy us. I think there are so many great actors both African American and the likes but we are merely noted and almost never honored. Will Smith latest movie may have been a flop but this man has played so many great roles. Angela Bassett, Cecily Tyson along with a host of other great actors and the only thing they get is nominated if that. The movie Creed star or leading role was an African American male but the only person to get a nod is Sylvester Stallone. Come on that’s ridiculous!
