Some of my readers requested the address of the inmate who beat up Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof in jail on Thursday.
The attack took place when Roof, who is being held in solitary confinement, was showering alone at 7:45 a.m. in the jail’s high-security area.
As soon as guards left Roof alone, Stafford, 26, exited his jail cell, rushed down a stairway and punched Roof in the face.
The 22-year-old mass murderer received minor bruising on his neck and back. He was examined by the jail’s medical staff and returned to his cell.
He declined to press charges against Stafford who is awaiting trial on unrelated first-degree assault and strong-armed robbery charges.
Jail officials are investigating how Stafford managed to squeeze between a narrow vertical opening in his cell to get to Roof on the first floor of an area reserved for federal and high-security prisoners.
Cell doors in the area can only be opened by jail guards from a central control room.
Grateful black people around the country celebrated the news that Roof was beaten in jail. Many expressed their gratitude on social media and the blogs, where users requested Stafford’s address to “put money on his books”.
