Sandra Bland’s family agreed to a $1.9 million “wrongful death” settlement — even though her family and friends abandoned her in a Waller County, Texas jail cell.
Thank God Sandra spoke to her cellmate or we would never know that her family and friends refused to answer their phones when she called them to bail her out.
Her own roommate ignored her voicemails.
Dejected, despondent and in despair, she tied a trash bag around her neck and took her own life. She was found hanging in her jail cell on July 13, 2015.
The settlement brought “joy” to her mother, Geneva Reed-Veal, who didn’t even call the jail when Sandra left her a voicemail. What kind of mother does that?
Shame on this family for exploiting Sandra’s death for profit.

Most of it will go to the attorneys.
I don’t know the “true” details of what anyone did or did not do but I do know that no amount of money can right that wrong. R.I.P. Sandra Bland
Why would they settle with the family for $1.9 million if her death was ruled a “suicide?”
Aw that’s nice…
but u can’t put an amount on a loved one that’s been ripped from u..I will take the little change but it would be a insult to me…I want to see some heads roll.. so to speak…
This shid dont sound right. Thought she took her own life. Wrongful death??
I hate when are so desperate and take these low-ball settlement offers that is no money
No amount will achieve justice or bring back their baby.
I think it’s for a wrongful arrest bc it was proven that he had no reason to arrest her.
Your guest is as good as mine! I never understood how the cops are not found guilty or the death was ruled a suicide but yet they still receive a settlement… All I know is the money sounds good but I rather have my loved one ALIVE then to have the money.
Is Faith really knocked up ?? Jose gone have a fit and a couple more babies…..
I don’t answer unknown numbers. I hope nothing happens to my loved ones & I get accused of ignoring the phone calls. ? RIP! ??
I agree w/you Sandra! They left that woman in jail and settled the case like it was nothing! I hope that money goes as fast as it came! Shame on them
Shame on yew ?
Tacky
Because they’re money grubbers who washed their hands of Sandra, which was the reason she moved to Tx, but I believe the jail is settling because 2 people who worked in the jail falsified log slips saying they checked on her when they really didn’t. They filled the forms out ahead of time and never checked the cells.
“Jail records show Bland had said at booking she previously tried to commit suicide, which means she should have been checked at least every 30 minutes by jail standards. State guidelines say all inmates are to be checked hourly.
Instead, two hours elapsed before jailers noticed Bland was unconscious, which isn’t reflected in the jail log, Rhodes told the AP. The sheriff’s office has acknowledged the documented 8 a.m. in-person check was done by intercom.
The Texas Commission on Jail Standards cited the jail after Bland’s death for not observing inmates in person and failing to provide documentation that its staff had been trained on how to deal with potentially suicidal inmates.”
Same here….I don’t answer calls that are saved in my phone. In addition to that, I don’t check my v/m, so never leave me one.
NOT ENOUGH!!
Definitely BBL
Whet?
As a condition of the settlement, Bland’s mother, Geneva Reed-Veal, says the Waller County jail must provide emergency nurses for all shifts; use automated electronic sensors to ensure accurate and timely cell checks; and activity seek the passage of additional state funds for for jail intaking, inmate screening, training and additional jail support.

You know SR wasn’t going to provide all the details!!
According to the write-up, she was of no value to them anyway, so they did good.
How old is Faith 40+?
good info . thx.
Wrongful death because she shouldn’t have been able to kill herself to begin with. She told them at intake she had attempted suicide before, so she was supposed to be checked every 30 minutes, but 2 hours passed and she wasn’t checked on, and that’s not on the jail form, because the 2 guards falsified the forms and filled them out and signed them before hand.
You’re welcome.
43.
They deserve more…..
Disregard I see where it came from.
Chile. A MESS.
Must be MTO…LOL
Its in quite a few places I saw yesterday.
Yep thy could tell me i had three kids and I wouldn’t believe it.
Oh my Sis well I guess time will tell.
So their only getting about 500,00
My vm at the house always says this mailbox is full. I dont eem know how to check the damn mailbox on it. I DO know how to check the one on my cell and still damn dont.
Hahahaha!!!! They just throw anything at the wall and hope that something sticks.
Monami got ratings gold if this talented fool still has a show.
Say what?
AWESOME??
She brought about some Change!
Right lol
I wish I could turn the vm on my phone off completely. It’s useless. I’d rather you send me a text. Don’t leave vms. I friggin hate everyone that leaves me a vm at work. Send me a damn email. Damn it. LOL
I especially hate when people wait until the vm comes on, they don’t say anything, then hang up.
Yeen called me earlier, Didjew? ? I didn’t answer ah call from yur state ???
If that….the money belongs to the lawyers.
Nope not me lol.
Mess .
Hmmmm
I’m finna call it blocked of course ?
Ain’t it though…the whole thing is a mess. The death is a mess, the arrest is a mess, this settlement is a mess.
I dont think I have the energy today ..
Neglect. They weren’t checking on her as they should
I have read…that most of the victims families killed…by the hands of tha police…usually “settle” out of court for at least 2-4 million. Its basically, paying for “misconduct” …and Hush money…
Its like saying… here some money…. now shut the fck up!
Basically ..its a pacifier…
Hell the attorneys got more justice . All around MESS
So … the white woman on FoX news who claimed sexual harrasment, who collected checks by hosting convoluted news, gets $20 million… the City kills a woman, her family gets $1.5 …
The devil seems like its winning.
And those families are so money hungry that they fall for the okie doke. SMH.
Ain’t that’s some sh!t
White people will destroy humanity.

Sandra can we get a Nick Gordon post before he most likely kills himself?
I dont think it always comes down to being money hungry ..its a lot of time , energy & money that goes into these cases …some ppl just get MF tired .
They know that the families are poor, so if they know if they throw them a bone (anything more than what they currently have), they are willing to take it and STHU.
I loveeeeeeeee her voice though
http://puffdaddyandthefamily.com/faith-evans-performs-soon-as-i-get-home-video/
Because she was in their custody. .they were responsible for her well being.
I believe Sandra Bland did kill herself. They settled for one reason and one reason alone – she should have never been arrested in the first place. This woman spent her last days in jail because of a cop’s ego. He was letting her go with a warning, all he had to say was good night and go on about his way. But she was irritated because she knew he hawked her. He knew he hawked her until she gave him a reason to pull her over. So why even ask her why she’s mad. See these cops be baiting folks. And as woke as Sandra clearly was, I wish to God she would have recognized that that cop baited her into doing exactly what he wanted her to do. It hurts my soul that she went through that, and that she felt so alone that suicide seemed like the only option. But she never should have been there in the first place.
Listening to her album “Faith” right now.
Nah, because most attorneys take cases like this on a contingency basis. They don’t get paid, unless the family gets paid. Most of the time, the families don’t even know what work is being done behind the scenes by the attorney until the attorney provides them with an update on the case. The attorney is basically a proxy of the person doing the suing and, the families usually aren’t involved with the actual litigation, other than if a settlement offer is made and the attorney brings it to the families’ attention, or, as I stated before, when a status on the case is given to the families.
They should be sued for racial profiling as well. As soon as she turned out of that parking lot, he busted a u turn to catch up with her, before you could even blink your eye. #WhatGoodCops #ThereAreNone
I don’t either. Call twice or leave a vmail. However, I will Google a number.
Damn shame
I pay $3.99 (I believe) for the T-Mobile phone number look up each month. I know everyone that’s calling me and where they are located.
Except for the one cutie white cop in Louisiana he’s the only good cop left
What did he do?
I came back at the wrong time I see
DASSIT???!!! GTFOHWTBS
Which is the main point. That 1.8 isn’t nearly enough.
How they determine he responsible but George Zimmer…you know what, let me at LEAST read the article first.
I know for a fact I don’t
I guess a check and no admission of wrong doing is considered justice now days.surprised no post on tyree King.
Pretty much…and its SAD
I play Baby Lay constantly her voice is the truth still.
I aint had it ALL week, so you KNOW on a Friday…..I aint REALLY here.
I actually agree with Sandra on this post..its messed up the family is reaping the benefits of her death but wouldnt even answer er calls from jail..tf type of shyt is that! I hate families thats all about money and really not about family..i couldnt imagine leaving one of my kids in jail KNOWING they have a bond..idgaf what they did!
Poor people need to be educated. These rich (racist) yt people are playing chess while the poor black people are playing checkers.
Truth
Guuurl, the Puerto Rican Princess ain’t having THAT. I’d like to be a fly on the wall when she gets to fussing & cussing like ONLY she can, LOL. I was kinda upset when yahoo “attempted” to describe her (Faith) like people DON’T know Faith. She has a career to stand on & Steebie AIN’T needed. The funniest ISH of the Princess is this HERE video (3 min mark…but I laugh off ALL of it). Boooed right off the damn stage, but Stevie saved the damn day…well close to it.
https://m.youtube.com/?#/watch?v=00O4ABK_95c
Regardless, to everything you said it still costs , takes your time & energy . I know personally ..to say that ppl dont get tired is kinda of crazy ,its a lot to deal with ..no matter how you put it , its a fight .
& am not saying you’re wrong at all
Just sad. No amount of money will bring her back. I wish the best for her family & many, many prayers.
I’m glad the boy took heed to my warning of not receiving a phone call from his teacher or I’ll show up. I remember Doris Mae showed up didn’t lay a hand but proceeded to tell allllllllll the kids what was gonna happen later lol, that was the longest 5 minute walk ever. I looked at every tree sidewalk etc.
Freddie Gray and now Sandra Bland they just gonna keep keep killing us and throwing our family who is left here to grieve some petty cash/hush money. They’ll be lucky if they even see half of that damn check after the lawyers and Uncle Sam lube up real good and rape they asses for fees and taxes
Sandra Bland’s family agreed to a $1.9 million “wrongful death” settlement — even though her family and friends abandoned her in a Waller County, Texas jail cell.

How much of that settlement has to go to pay for the attorneys & court costs?

Don’t blame the family. Sometimes if a family member is doing THEE MOST, they can wear out their welcome in your heart. So her mother & friends probably ignored her to show her a lesson. Who knows? RIP Ms. Bland
You do know that cellmates lie just to get another sandwich. Anyway, when I was locked up mama didn’t answer her phone either. No one did. They didnt even write or come see. It’s call tough love. I got time served and stayed my black ass out of jail. I been jail free for almost 5 years.?
Look i got a crazy relative who would have had to wait a few hours until I was prepared to deal with her, but she doesn’t deserve to die. Far too often police think they ARE the law, they are simply investigators whose job it is to collect evidence, so that the PROSECUTOR can take accused to trial.
#MitriceRichardson
Man he was an enabler emm a user for sure but killer me not so sure about that.
Cuz it wasnt
Hahahahaha….mama said “you got yourself in this mess, now get yourself out of it.”
He should of shown up welp. …
Wow sad way to die if it’s true … No family to answer her call. Tied a trash bag around her neck… So sad… And her family enjoying some of the money off her pain even if it 10,000 it’s not worth it. Here’s wishing she could have just made it to her new job…
Hell yeah. No one put money on my books. Not even my daddy. I learnt.
He’s either fake done or real done with her now. One can never tell with a Monami production.
Or, they just didn’t answer the phone because they didn’t know who was calling (something I would do). I wouldn’t even return the phone call or check my vm, so trying to get to me from a number IDNK is futile and a complete waste of time. LOL.
TI pissing people off
http://sandrarose.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_newpost.gif
Hahahaha!!! And all that tough love fixed your as$ right up. Love it.
I hate voicemail as well and I don’t have it on my phone. Well, I have it, but I never set it up so when you call it will say the person you call has a voicemail that has not been set up…blah, blah. GOODBYE! I look at like this if its really important the person will keep CALLING or send a text. Everyone fusses with me about not having it, but hell that’s just ONE more thing in the one million things I got to during the day. I don’t want to be bothered and I won’t, not with that. LOL
Yep. I was cold and starving in jail. I said never ever again. I dont even speed in these streets anymore.
Chile I didn’t know they wouldn’t answer her calls. All money ain’t good money, and blood money ain’t never good. #shameful
I barely answer my phone and definitely don’t check messages so ?
Energy for corrections and ignorance I don’t have on tuhdays date ?
Yeah cops love to try folks.
Hahahaha you are killing me!!! Hahahahaha
Not that it mattered because they played a part (all or some of) in her death, but could it be that the family missed her call and when they called back, got an automated message and could not figure out where they were calling and the officers didn’t report it.
But um, yeah I tend to NOT answer numbers I don’t know, every since telemarketers (and bill collectors) started calling for regular old numbers.
Dejected, despondent and in despair, she tied a trash bag around her neck and took her own life. She was found hanging in her jail cell
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
So disrespectful to her memory….just ignore the fact that she was too tall and heavy for this LIE to even be possible
That’s exactly what it is
This is my testimony. If you learn from it great and you find humor in it wonderful, but just don’t learn it the hard way
I already did it for you.
She was in jail, not prison. She had a new job, why would she give up hope so soon and kill herself?
I am sure you mom / FAM may have missed a couple calls from you ..it doesn’t mean they didn’t love you or is that your way of thinking ?
This leaves a horrible taste in my mouth and makes my heart hurt…..I’m sorry but I feel like her family should not get this money….They didn’t want to answer her calls but yet want to get/spend this money….Vipers….
That’s the thing about depression and suicide. It comes in waves. In that moment, jail may have felt like prison. In those moments, the despair is unimaginable.
30%
True…big ups to you for growing up.
They do!! And if her death is to have some meaning, I think black people in particular really need to watch and STUDY that dash cam video. Study how these pigs operate. Watch how he hawked her going the opposite way. He flipped a U and pulled up right behind her. You ever had a cop ride your bumper?? They’re doing exactly what that cop did the Sandra – trying to rattle you so you’ll do something out of turn. And what happened? Sandra changed lanes after the lights changed without signaling, and that’s when the cop pulled her over. And then the confrontation itself…full on baiting. When he asked her what her problem was why she looked annoyed, that was the worm on the hook. DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THESE PIGS.
Honey you better PREACH!! These folks are talking about how the family should have held out for more money and maybe so but guess what? Had they bothered to help her she wouldn’t be dead in the first place.
What an absolute disgrace. Poor Sandra Bland. That girl obviously was on her own and alone up until the moment she died.
Oh my goodness! I can’t even put into words what I want to say about this woman’s family! ??
Yes, especially for a person who isnt about that jail life..
I’m shocked and utterly speechless.
Whatever you believe to be the case, this woman should be alive today. It’s sickening. And for my family member, they wouldn’t be able to print enough money.
Your comeback didn’t make sense at all.
i got a family member who got ME locked up back in the day, who’s in jail now, they revoked her bond and gave her 4 years but i still try and do what i can, i’d actually feel horrible if something happened to her in there knowing i did Nothin to help..
R. I. P……..Sandra Bland…………#SayHerName !!!!!!!……..
**********
You served time for us all – just like Jesus…
Regardless we need to stop taking blood money for our family members death if pass up the money to prove they were wrong further even if you do settle quit settling for scraps!!! Fuc a million that’s chump change these days it’s more than I have I will admit but it’s chump change to the people handing it out fuc em all
Ok thank you
Very true.
Sad thing is, by the time you subtract the lawyers’ 30%. and then divide up the rest ($1.4 million?) among the various family members, that money probably wont last long anyway. Within 5 years there’s a good chance that some/most of those who end up getting a check will be broke.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/b029c76378ea5eb0d17be0ae40b316f329298b08b0b47105020d3c5aaea4a82e.gif
I didn’t even know you could hang yourself with a trashbag.
It made plenty of sense to a logical mind & it wasn’t a comeback just a diff POV …you acted as if finding out her FAM didn’t answer meant she was less loved so I presented an example to you ..If you call your mom / FAM & they dont answer ..does that mean they love you less ? SIMPLE
Nothing bad, he’s always doing great things for the African-American Community that’s why I said he’s the only good cop left
You’re right. It wasn’t a comeback, it was a reply. To be perfectly honest, them not responding DOES mean she was less loved. They didn’t answer the call, call back after hearing the voicemail, or took their behinds to Texas. If that’s love, I don’t want it. I just know my parents would be on the first flight to Texas if they knew that I was in danger. Now, that’s SIMPLE.
I wouldn’t worry about it. Karma gonna get Everybody that touches that money.
Agreed
I think the lawyers get about 40% since it’s over a million. And since this is not for physical injuries, I think taxes are due. Not sure on that one though. So less than a million divided equally by her closest relatives if no will.
Not surprised. Typical……
Thus is so sad.
I actually think they should have got more.
I actually think they should have got more.
Shame on this family for exploiting Sandra’s death for profit.

I soooo agree with this statement. This happens so often where people go hunting for profit on a death of a family member they didn’t support during life. What in the hell are they going to do with all of that money that would in any way benefit an awareness of how she lived or died???????

????been wondering this
Dejected, despondent and in despair, she tied a trash bag around her neck and took her own life. She was found hanging in her jail cell on July 13, 2015.
This woman did not kill herself and there are videos showing that all of it was a cover up. Why would she kill herself over a traffic violation and she was supposed to start a new job? Even one of the officers on duty was threatened for trying to speak out. Why do u think they’re paying out hush money to her thirsty family? RIP Sandra!
____________
I wish you would review all the facts and videos before posting such things Sandy
A Texas police officer on Tuesday accused law enforcement officials of covering up what he saw during Sandra Bland’s controversial arrest last summer.
Prairie View police officer Michael Kelley told The Huffington Post that portions of his original incident report, which reflected poorly on the state trooper who arrested Bland, were removed. He also alleged that he was threatened by a Waller County prosecutor for speaking out about what he’d witnessed on that July 2015 day.
The Waller County district attorney denied the latter claim and said that Kelley is untrustworthy, because he faces his own criminal charges of wrongdoing while on duty. The Prairie View Police Department did not respond to a request for comment.
Bland, who was accused of assaulting trooper Brian Encinia, died in a Waller County jail three days after her arrest from an apparent suicide. The 28-year-old’s death sparked a national outcry as activists said she never should have been arrested and her family argued that she wouldn’t have taken her own life.
By the time Kelley arrived on the scene of what began as a traffic stop, he said that Bland was already handcuffed in the back of a squad car. He said he overheard Encinia, who had turned off his own body camera, admitting that he didn’t know what charge to lodge against Bland, but declaring that he’d come up with something. That’s one key part of Kelley’s incident report that he claims has been removed.
“My opinion is that he messed up,” Kelley told HuffPost. “He did not have probable cause to detain her after he pulled her out of the car.”
Another detail missing from the incident report, the officer said, is his observation that it looked like Bland had been struck in the head.
“She had a large mark on her head. Maybe she fell when she was in handcuffs. Maybe she got kicked,” Kelley told HuffPost. She complained about head pain but didn’t cooperate with emergency medical workers, he said.
In all, Kelley said that officials whittled his two-page rough draft down to less than a page and entered it into the official record without his approval. He said he also wanted to testify before the grand jury investigating Bland’s arrest, but that Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepraam threatened him.
“He told me it wouldn’t be good for my career,” Kelley said. “Then I told him I was going to talk to Sandra Bland’s mother’s attorney, and he told me I was going to be beneath the jail.”
Kelley, a 33-year-old officer with the Prairie View Police Department since 2014, is an embattled figure himself. He was indicted for allegedly misusing a Taser on a black Prairie View city councilman, named Jonathan Miller, who didn’t comply with police orders in October last year.
Kelley’s claims are “ludicrous and slanderous,” said Diepraam, who stated that he never spoke with the officer about Bland.
“It’s a sickening attempt by a desperate individual to get out of responsibility for his own police misconduct,” said Diepraam. He added that prosecutors are investigating other alleged complaints about Kelley’s record as a cop.
Waller County Sheriff’s Office/Associated Press Trooper Brian Encinia, shown in a Jan. 7, 2016, booking photo, was indicted for allegedly lying about his arrest of Sandra Bland.
Encinia was indicted for perjury for alleged false statements about the Bland arrest. The trooper was also fired.
Chip Lewis, Encinia’s lawyer, questioned why Kelley’s claims were only coming out now. He argued that Kelley’s charge was undermined by another Prairie View officer who didn’t report hearing the trooper wonder how to charge Bland.
“I don’t think it’s worth the paper it’s written on,” said Lewis. “They’re completely contradicted by other eyewitnesses.”
Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis also labeled Kelly’s charges against his office as “fictional accounts.”
“I unequivocally state that he never approached me, my first assistant, or any member of my staff with any such information. His job was never threatened by me or my staff, and I barely knew who he was before he was indicted,” Mathis said in a statement on Tuesday. “I can only imagine that this is an attempt to divert attention away from the crime committed against Councilman Miller and to cash in on the media attention and sad circumstances surrounding Ms. Bland’s death last year for which we all still mourn.”
Kelley claims his indictment was payback for speaking out about Bland.
The officer’s accusations were first made public Tuesday by local activist Dwayne Charleston, who revealed a recorded conversation in which Kelley had talked to him about Bland’s arrest. Charleston told HuffPost that recording was made in March.
HuffPost has reported previously about discrepancies in the records from Bland’s case, including claims that jail guards checked on her closer to the time of her death than the video outside her cell indicates.
This story has been updated with comment from Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepraam.

Sandra Bland Protests
Stop with the BS Sandra. Please do better. I don’t mind the bull sheit playing around on a Trump post but this is a serious matter. Some of the things you write are hurtful to some people. Sandra Bland didn’t kill herself.
I just fonted that Libra…I just cant with the bs
It’s ridiculous that our own race of people can hurt us the most. SMDH
First of all I don’t believe anything that is being reported by the media or the police. I do remember her mother saying they knew she was locked up and they where trying to get her out.
that and the videos from inside the jail *smdh* why would it be a trash can in the cell…what would she have to discard?
especially with the platform that she has…shyt is just crazy!
Ok…the mugshot with dead eyes….nope I’m not convinced it was suicide
That bail was like $150 some mess like that and NO one could get her out? Please
I KNOW! talk about starting a precedence..
That’s not true…
It’s brush them away money. The jail was somewhat at fault for not having a suicide watch procedure in place. It was easier and cheaper to pay the family off.Taxes and attorneys will take 60 to 70 percent of the settlement and by next year her mother will be broke again. Karma
Yup, blame the police for everything…ugh!
Because it was a homicide.
Honestly , before the recent tensions we’ve encountered with police (although this is nothing new just coming into light) would you really think your FAM member would end up dead in custody ? Probably not , we dont expect to die from traffic stops . Also maybe your fam has the means to hop on a flight …everybody ain’t able
.so just bc your FAM got it it doesn’t mean hers has it ..and once again it has no bearing on the amount of love they have for her .
I hate to say it but both Sandra and the cop were at fault. Neither one would back down. In that situation, the cictizen should simply be quiet and follow the cops directions even if he’s a jerk.
She was suicidal and new should get fired from her new position due to the charge. Also she was in jail and unable to start.
O_o…because we all know that inmates would NEVER lie…FOH with this nonsense, chick.
That’s interesting. Everybody forgets that nobody returned her phone call. I remember one friend on TV even played the voice mail. Where was her family? Where was the bail money? Well, maybe now the family will STFU.
Sandra Rose is convinced she killed herself because she herself is a self hating black broad who believes everything her good white massas tell her.
It was a technicality. A good attorney can argue that the jail was negligent by not doing this, by not doing that, etc. etc. and that’s why they did. The County didn’t want the headache and paid. It’s a paltry sum, the attorney gets 30%. Imagine all the phone calls, travels, funeral costs, etc. That $1Million is cut in half.
The county jail should have been monitoring her and I believe they missed a schedule. That’s when she committed suicide.
It’s a good way for the family to cash out. I considered the killed relative a “martyr” and a way for the family to cash out and get a new life.
Depression does funny things to people.
Her family was in a constant state of denial. “Oh no not Sandra”. Obviously they didn’t know her.
Here’s the thing though – the cop asked her why she was mad. She told him and he got offended. That’s the ONLY reason why situation escalated and he started barking orders. His feelings were hurt and he had to show her who was boss. The stop was over. There was no legitimate reason to continue the conversation when he KNEW he hawked her and was going to follow her until she did something. That being said, I wish Sandra had recognized she was being baited and not engaged.
You’re going a tad bit too hard about not answering or returning phone calls. Are you one those family members??? Kidding but not kidding…????
I’m still shocked at that.
Not sure what happened between Sandra Bland and her family and friends. For “no one” to come to the phone or rescue tells me that a lot of bridges were broken for whatever reason. Maybe she was always getting into trouble, maybe she was a drama queen, maybe her family said ‘let her sit over night’ and we’ll go get her in the morning. Who knows. But I find it odd that not even her roommate would pick up the phone. In any case, it’s sad all the way around, because we don’t know when it will be our last time speaking with someone. I’m sure if her family thought she would off herself, they would have called. Maybe…
They recieved the settlement because ” the jail should have been set up to prevent suicide attempts” cameras and guards closely monitoring
Oh ok thanks for the info
Oh ok I understand, thanks!
Evidentially they didn’t see the same tape I saw
Am sticking to the topic at hand and yes I am ..I do not always answer my phone & I ain’t going hard we’re having a dialogue but good day luv .
Exactly Sandy!!! The same family that couldn’t come up with $500 is now being awarded $1.9 milli….no way in hell. That money will burn!!!!
Darn Shane trying to??? If you don’t have $500 in your account or as a family as a whole…something ain’t right and says a lot about her family!!!
JUST SAD ANY WAY YOU SPIN IT…
The $1.9 million is because a despondent young woman was allowed to take her own life (allegedly!!) while in police custody. AFTER she was stopped, arrested and brutalized for no lawful reason. Her life had value even if what SR alleges is true.
Ive been side eyeing the family from jump. Who leaves their people in jail…in the deep south!? Send for her so she can get to work at least. They’re just as guilty of enabling her suicide
RIP…Sandra Bland??
Nice job with the information ?.
When I first read about the settlement only thing came to mind was “They didn’t even answer the phone when she was calling””. Sad.
You are absolutely right !!!!
You are absolutely right !!!!
Aint that some schit? A quick come up for her family, considering no one would take her call or put money for her. SMH family aint worth a damn, I swear. Now someone, probably her mom if she had no kids (Sandra), will be living a comfortable rest of her/his life.
By unpopular opinion as always, I don’t think she should have been so mouthy to the cops. I’ve been stopped by those same cops at that school being alumnus , and just took my tickets quietly like a big girl.. but I digress. Hope the family is happy about the cash coming to them..
Sandra u need to ?it!! Were u there?.did u hear the voicemails? I know the bland family personally and trust she was very loved!!! u are a very hateful lady, I read ur articles everyday and u seem to get bitter and bitter!! Now what we need to be discussing ma’am is that FACE OF YOURS FRFR
Exactly
Vultures.
And taxes
A couple of commenters, understandably, are asking why the fam did not decide to go to trial as opposed to taking the settlement. Texas, most likely, and historically in these types of cases, have been an uphill battle for plaintiffs and/or appellants of color; the culture is very much an unchanging antebellum. A court, or if by jury, a jury, that would have been able to render a judgment in the family’s favor, would be a difficult cast to find. Remember where her death took place. The family could have walked away with nothing had they opted to risk going to trial in a jurisdiction very much allied with their police department, regardless of clear suspicions of wrong doings. Regardless, Ms. Bland’s life can never be quantified. This was a terrible loss, under considerably questioning circumstances.
Exactly
I was thinking the same thing. She was ignored by her family and friends when she was locked up. They probably got the settlement because she shouldn’t have been arrested in the first place but I don’t think her family should get all that money either.
Yeah, some lesson because she’s dead now. If she was that much of a problem, why even sue and accept any money for her death? When you wash your hands of someone, money shouldn’t matter, if they no longer matter. They were flat out wrong and guilt is the only reason those money hungry leaches sued.
No they got the settlement because they didn’t put her on watch. Arrest was legal. Officer not in jail. He was found to have over step, but no civil rights violation or direct cause to her death.
The autopsy the family had done said suicide.
Oh , that’s right. Thanks.
Thank goodness SR blog told the truth about Sandra Bland’s selfish, cruel, and greedy family. The jail witnessed that no one cared about Sandra Bland. Her own mother didn’t take her call but I’m sure her mother will have no problem calling the bank and cruise reservations line. The settlement should go to the cell mate and the activists who gave Sandra Bland compassion and a voice and to a scholarship fund in Ms. Bland’s name.
Her family were counting dollar signs from first word of her unjust passing.
Her mean greedy family would rather have the money.
THANK YOU!
Sandra Bland’s were ready for a settlement the minute they got the news. Shame on them ignoring her.
SPEAK!!!!
And racists thrive on black family dysfunction. An isolated black person with no family or an unsupportive family is the perfect victim.
The officers were racist and wrong but Sandra handled that with her awareness and voice. The jailing is not what killed her. Her family’s desertion and abandonment is what drove her to suicide. One supportive phone call from a family member or friend, one visit, Sandra Bland would be alive today.
Depression and suicide have triggers. Racism wasn’t Sandra’s trigger, she had a strong activist spirit. Sandra’s trigger was family dysfunction and rejection. Let this be a lesson to black families to heal and stop being hateful to toward each other.
Black on black hate helps racism.
Sandra Bland is dead because no one cared about her and when the racist cops witnessed no one cared about her they determined she wasn’t worth checking on.
And she knew that job was all she had in the world and without it she had no one to turn to. No one should ever be that isolated.
Thank you.
But her family didn’t love her, she wasn’t ripped from them, they dejected her. They would take any amount just for the profit off of her death.
Lord I hate to say this but the first thing I thought when this story first broke and the news of how her family and friends ignored her was that given the epidemic of black people dying in police custody her family foresaw and hoped for the worst so they could sue.
Her mother should have also added the condition that she herself should have answered the phone call of her daughter unlawfully in custody. The lawyer and the police had no choice but to come up with those changes. The only thing her mother came up with was a pen to sign the settlement check.
Well, that’s eff’d up..all I’m saying is it couldn’t be my family…
I didn’t know she hung herself. I thought the cops killed her…
I know. I mean they just ignored the calls. Just listened to the recording and ignored the calls. Just let her sit there. Because they didn’t care. But they’re happy to dance on her grave with profit off her tragedy.
Wait, the family of unemployed men, drug addicts and felons killed by cops get $5 million dollar settlements? Hmmm!
I hate to talk about Sandra’s Mama, but she is one strange cookie.
He was only going to give her a warning until she started mouthing off unnecessary.
You will never when the constitutionality of a ticket on the side of the road. STFU, take your ticket and wait for your court date for any constitutional challenges.
Notwithstanding her misplaced #BlackLivesMatter attitude, he still abused his authority.
Oh that’s right, cops didn’t kill Sandra. She committed suicide with a plastic trash bag.
Truth!!!
It’s Texas 10% $50. How were they trying to get her out
Then why did three autopsy say she did. The family’s the county and the Texas Rangers. It was all received by the justice department. We as black people need to keep it real. That could have been a five min stop.
???
The county was cited for this to include extract trash bogs in the can.
In Texas you get mugshot befor you can call. She was walking through with no hand cuffs and made many calls to many people. She was very much alive
After leaving messages that she in jail and need bail money
This is after black lives matter.
There were three done one by the county nobody cares about. One done by the Texas Rangers reviewed by the justice department. And one by the family
I remember seeing Sandra’s sister on Judge Mathis discussing her death. She was suing a flaming designer for not completing a dress she was purchasing for someone, wasn’t clear if it was Sandra’s daughter or her own daughter. But what was clear was that used Sandra’s name for sympathy with the Judge.
It is rumored here in TX that they did but her death was ruled as a suicide. It was also said that at the time of her mugshots she was already dead, they opened her eyes, laid her on the floor and took the mugshots. Then they dragged her to her cell and hung her. So it’s rumored.

The DOJ and other figureheads reviewed the reports and evidence as written. As written they pointed to suicide, because they were written to do so.
I understand. I thought u meant because the death was ruled suicide, that would alter the outcome of a trial. Yes, it was ruled “suicide”.
It is strange that no family members came to post bail or check on her, or answer her calls.
Same as with Sean Levert, no one came to check on him during the 6 days that he was in jail?????? smh!!
