Oscar Award winner Denzel Washington took a shot at the news media for violating journalistic standards in order to be the first to break a news story.
Washington, 61, criticized news outlets for their annoying habit of reporting Internet rumors and gossip as fact in their never-ending race to stay ahead of bloggers.
One of the side effects of “too much information” Washington said, is “The need to be first, not even to be true anymore.”
“So what a responsibility you all have — to tell the truth,” Washington scolded reporters on the red carpet at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
“In our society, now it’s just first — who cares, get it out there. We don’t care who it hurts. We don’t care who we destroy. We don’t care if it’s true,” Washington continued.
“Just say it, sell it. Anything you practice you’ll get good at — including bullsh*t.
Washington is still dismayed about a fake news story that claimed he switched his vote from Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to GOP candidate Donald Trump.
