American traitor Bradley “Chelsea” Manning slammed former President Barack Obama “as a weak leader” in a new column for the UK’s Guardian newspaper.
Manning, 29, is an Army soldier who was court-martialed in July 2013 for violating the Espionage Act by leaking classified military documents to WikiLeaks.
His actions jeopardized the safety of thousands of soldiers, particularly those on active duty in the Middle East.
Manning was sentenced in August 2013 to 35 years in prison with the possibility of parole after 8 years. But Obama commuted Manning’s sentence in his final week as president of the United States.
In his Guardian newspaper column, the ungrateful prisoner wrote that he watched Obama’s 2009 inauguration in a room full of soldiers at New York’s Fort Drum.
Manning described the atmosphere in the room as President Obama was being sworn in.
“The seething vitriol and hatred simmered quietly in that room,” Manning wrote. “In retrospect, it was ominous foreshadowing of things to come.”
The biological male who identifies as a transwoman said President Obama was a man who had “few permanent accomplishments”. Manning acknowledged that one of Obama’s accomplishments was pushing the U.S. Supreme Court to legalize same-sex marriage.
“The one simple lesson to draw from President Obama’s legacy: do not start off with a compromise,” Manning wrote. “They won’t meet you in the middle. Instead, what we need is an unapologetic progressive leader.”
Manning is set to be released in May after serving only 7 years.
