A trendy Washington DC wine bar filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump and his Trump International Hotel for unfair competition.
The Cork and Wine Bar at 1720 14th St. sits in the shadow of Trump’s 5-star hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue, a block away.
The plaintiffs complain that the swanky $536-a-night hotel is competing unfairly with local businesses in the area.
The other establishments also complain that the hotel is hurting their business.
The lawsuit asked the court to issue an injunction declaring that the hotel is competing unfairly.
The legal team representing Cork say the bar’s owners, an interracial married couple named Diane Gross and Khalid Pitts, are not seeking monetary damages.
The Veritas Law Firm says Trump refuses to divest himself of his billion dollar empire. They allege that he benefits financially from “every dollar spent at his hotels, golf courses and commercial and residential buildings”.
“It is clear that those who are looking to influence this administration are going to look to that business,” said attorney Scott Rome.
