Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan caused a sensation on social media after he stuck a golf ball in his pocket to take a photo for the Northern Ireland Tourism board last week. Twitter users immediately assumed his “bulge” was something different.
The fact is most women can’t tell the difference between a man’s penis and an object in his pocket or a crease in his pants when they view a flat image.
Notice that men rarely have the same spatial and perspective problems as women. That’s why men make better architects, builders, and painters than women.
The problem is that women lack perspective. That is the ability to perceive three-dimensional depth and size when viewing a flat (one dimensional) image. People who lack perspective easily mistake one object for another or misjudge the depth and size of an object.
If a woman was standing in front of Dornan, she would easily see that he has a golf ball in his pocket. But she has difficulty seeing the size and depth of the golf ball in an image because the image is flat and there is missing information (the golf ball).
Women confuse the horizontal creases from the material stretching over the golf ball for something that isn’t there (a penis).
The human mind is limited when there isn’t enough information provided in a flat image. The female mind plays tricks by filling in the missing information using its best guess.
If you thought Dornan was packing, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
