A recent breakthrough in human genome studies may explain why certain superhumans are endowed with extreme intellectual abilities or athletic prowess. New research shows that ancient human beings had sex with a non-human species.
According to a study conducted by Omer Gokcumen at the University of Buffalo, ancient humans had sexual intercourse with a non-human “ghost species”.
In his studies, Gokcumen found “wildly different” genes in strands of DNA that can be traced back about 150,000 years ago when humans were breeding with this mysterious species of non-humans.
The species is referred to as “ghost species” because they are extinct and there are no known fossils that can be analyzed for DNA. Gokcumen explains that humans belong to an order of Hominini, which includes species that were bred out through interspecies breeding.
“It seems that interbreeding between different early hominin species is not the exception – it’s the norm,” Gokcumen told the Sun newspaper.
Ancient interspecies breeding may explain why extremely gifted athletes such as LeBron James and Serena Williams dominate their sports so completely. Or why non-savant geniuses like Einstein are so rare in the human species.
