Senate candidate Doug Jones admits his campaign sent out racist campaign fliers to black constituents in Alabama. The mailer was intended to motivate black people to vote for Jones rather than his opponent Roy Moore, whose campaign was nearly upended by sexual harassment allegations.
The mailer, which was designed to resemble an Internet meme, featured the text: “Think if a Black man went after high school girls anyone would try to make him a senator?” Under that is a photo of a young black man with a skeptical look on his face.
The Root’s Michael Harriot lashed out at Jones’ race-baiting tactics, which seems to be a running theme among Democratic candidates.
“Part of the reason the Democratic Party has been marginalized as a party… is whitemannery like this. The Democratic Party is trash. It is the reason Hillary Clinton lost. It is the reason Donald Trump is president.”
Others noted that black people routinely play the race card in every election. Politicians know that blacks don’t care about the issues — only the race of the candidates. Nowhere was this more evident than the recent Atlanta mayoral race.
That’s why Jones’ incredibly insulting flier went to print without anyone in his campaign thinking it was a bad idea.
One Reddit.com user summed up the mindset of black people who bond emotionally with their oppressors (Democrats).
“Black folks are going to vote Jones anyway, even after this insult. After all, black folks are used to the paternalistic Dem party insulting them… It must be a bitter taste to go vote for people you KNOW think you are inferior.”
Yes, this too shall pass, and even the “woke” blacks like Harriot will continue to vote for Democrats because, as a race, we have a habit of not learning from our past.
