Instagram users lashed out at ‘Power’ star La La Anthony for taking advantage of a Bronx teenager’s tragic death to draw publicity to herself.
La La’s intentions may be pure, but people are tired of celebrities staging stunts for promotional purposes.
La La asked her estranged husband, Carmelo Anthony, to The Bronx home of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz’s sister in the Bronx. Lesandro was stabbed repeatedly during a gang attack on June 20.
She posted an image of herself and Carmelo visiting Lesandro’s sister prior to his funeral on Wednesday.
“This is what I wanted to do for my birthday today. Thank you to the ‘gram for connecting me to this family. I wanted to offer our love and support to Lesandro ‘Junior’s’ family,” she wrote in the image caption. “His sister @__octobersveryown__ reached out and told me he loved Melo. So I asked Mel to go with me.
“I can’t imagine this type of pain and sadness. His family is strong and may God bless them forever,” she wrote.
But IG users dragged her, saying the visit was purely for selfish reasons.
“I think your wack,” one user wrote. “I honestly think it’s all about you and your publicity! How dare you make Junior about your bday! There was a reason I never liked your dumb ass!”
La La dismissed the criticism, saying she did it out of compassion for the family.
“(& before it starts… we did more than bring jerseys and sneakers),” she wrote, adding that she donated cash to the family’s GoFundMe account.
