The love affair between former President Barack Obama and George Soros is apparently over. The 87-year-old billionaire globalist is best known for financing Black Lives Matter and supporting Obama and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaigns.
Now Soros says Obama was his “greatest disappointment,” and he doesn’t particularly see himself as a Democrat.
Soros, who lives in New York, made the statements during an interview with the New York Times published on Tuesday.
Soros, a liberal socialist who donated heavily to Obama’s presidential run in 2008, told The Times that Obama was “actually my greatest disappointment,” before adding that Obama turned his back on him after he won the election.
“He made one phone call thanking me for my support, which was meant to last for five minutes, and I engaged him, and he had to spend another three minutes with me, so I dragged it out to eight minutes,” he said.
Soros said he hoped that Obama would consult with him on economic and financial issues. He said Obama tends to “take his supporters for granted and to woo his opponents.”
Soros is the latest Democrat to express disappointment in Obama.
Last month, a NY magazine article quoted frustrated Democratic Party members who are desperate for Obama to take leadership of the Party going into the 2018 midterm elections.
As one leading Democratic operative put it: “If [Obama] were willing to go way over the line and get arrested, or something way out there, that would be a galvanizing event.”
Obama responded by telling Democrats to stop dreaming about him and move on.
This month he hosted a thousand dollar-per-plate fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee. But Obama’s primary focus is on funding public monuments to himself in Chicago.
Plans are in the works for a presidential library, a museum, and a new building to house his Obama Foundation. The library alone will cost $500 million to build.
This week, television mogul Oprah Winfrey donated $1 million to Obama’s foundation building fund. Not a penny of that money will go to the Democratic Party.
