I am one of those skeptics who doubts that a black man will ever sit in the oval office unless he’s invited there by the current president. But Barack Obama just might be the first ever black president of the United States after all.
Obama won a decisive victory in the Iowa Democratic Caucuses yesterday, bringing him one step closer to the White House. Presidential candidates Sen. Hillary Clinton and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards campaigned hard to win the Iowa caucuses, but they both came up short.
Iowa was the crucial first step leading to the New Hampshire primaries on Monday. “They said this day would never come. They said our sights were set too high. … But on this January night, on this defining moment in history, you have done what the cynics said we couldn’t do. You did what the state of New Hampshire can do in five days,” Obama said.
Obama, 46, is bidding to become the first black president. He garnered about 38 percent of the vote, comfortably ahead of former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, the former first lady.
If elected, Obama vowed, “I’ll be a president that ends this war in Iraq and finally brings our troops home, who restores our moral standing, who understands that 9-11 is not a way a way to scare up votes but a challenge that should unite America and the world against the common threats of the 21st Century.”
“Hope is the bedrock of this nation, the belief that our destiny will not be written for us but by us, by all those men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is but who have the courage to remake the world as it should be,” he said. “That is what we started here in Iowa and that is the message we can now carry to New Hampshire and beyond.”
He appeared at the rally with his wife, Michelle, whom he called “the love of my life,” and daughters Malia and Sasha.
As he came to the podium, he repeated “thank you” over and over to a crowd of supporters. Then, he added: “Thank you, Iowa.” (Source)
I am still hopelessly undecided, but I am so giddy right now. I can’t believe this is happening. It’s still not in the bag, but this is history being made. I’m so proud of this man.
I really like the way you word your writing. Im glad that you’re covering the pres. election on your site. we need to encourage more young folks to register to vote. everyone want to complain about the white devil(bush(my opinion)) but no one want to step up. why did they have the vote or die campaign if they wasnt going to use it for all elections.(that must was publicity) we not in the clear yet
Just vote for Barack Obama, people! Vote for this great man, against your fears. Vote your hopes. He is worth it. We are worth it.
I am proud too, I’m getting a more clear view of him now.
OBAMA GOOD SHIT MY N***A! I STILL DONT FULLY TRUST YOU BECASUE SOME SHIT I READ IN THE PAST BUT LETS SEE HOW YOU DO!! IF YOURE GOING TO BE A PUPPET ATLEAST “GIVE US FREE”!!
I was sitting at home watching this last night and I as a black woman was so proud. I knew that he could do it. I know that he is the one to do it. I remember when he was running for senate here in Illinois, everywhere you’d go you’d see the “Obama for Senate” signs. Who knew that only a few years later he would be running for president. It also saddens me how much our own people won’t believe. Look how far we have come as a race. But yet we still try to find a way to bring each other down. Its ridiculous. I think he’s going all the way to the oval office. I’ll be standing in line ready to vote.
OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!
Team Obama all the way.
Awesome news, There is nothing that will change my mind about voting for him. He is the right choice for our next president… It’s time for a CHANGE!!!!!
OBAMA IN 08!!!
i was with you sandra but i’m taking a much closer look at obama now.
The White folk’s god had something to do with this. Her name is five letters…..O-P-R-A-H……White folks love her and if she says vote for Obama…they will. Because of that, I know Obama will be the next president.
I still have chills from Obama’s success in Iowa and his passionate speech last night. I’m hopelessly optimistic, so I never doubted this black mans presidential electability. I’m confident that he’ll have the same support in New Hampshire as he did in Iowa. My concern, however, is South Carolina Caucuses with an overwhelming 50% black vote. I hate to say it, but our people are some of the biggest damn haters (oops… said I wasn’t going to use that word in ’08) when it come to our own. Our “civil rights” leaders and black problemticians ie, Andrew Young, Jesse Jackson, Sharpton are trying their best to discourage black voters from voting for Senator Barack. I’m an independent thinker and not a follower, but I’m not sure how much influence the above named “leaders” have over the masses of black people. I just hope my people base their votes on accurate knowledge of their candidate of choice rather than what they heard from some loud-mouth, jealous hearted, crabs-in-a-barrel, morally decadent black “leaders”.
Has anyone else noticed how quiet the white folk are this morning? I just counted 2 evil looks… lol. I love it! Anyway I have to go, I’m about to go start a water cooler conversation about Barack being our next President:)
Although he won the democratic votes in Iowa they are showing that it was less than 1,000 votes for the whole state! With Huckabee winning 38,000 votes. So althouh he won the majority votes out of 1,000 if this was the election he would have lost!!
I believe Obama is what we need for The United States of America as it is now…
Since when does a Rich White Man Christian Reformed with a Wife and 2 kids represent this country….and since that is ALL that has been representing us as President our country as it is now is totally Different from the “NORM”.
I’m going to chance it with Barack if he happens to make it or any democrat at that!
Although I agree with some of the views of Republicans I would NOT want to live another 4 years under one.
For Barack a man that has been serving in Senate for a short time and a man that is ONLY worth 1,000,000, A Half Black Man, with the name Barack Hussein Obama (he had to know he would catch flack for that, like he has). For him to step out and run for president because he is TIRED OF WATCHING OUR COUNTRY suffer from job loss, health care, the senseless war….why not vote for him. One thing I like about him…he doesn’t make promises!!! He only says over and over we need change for the better!! and I agree with that!
Huckabee is going to try and win with his Christian beliefs and MORALS. and we see how Bush’s Morals have done our country…it’s a no brainer to me!!! and Guilani…Please he can’t even maintain a relationship with his own kids…he has too many personel problems, so how could he handle the problems of the USA and he can’t even maintain his household!!!
oh yeah i forgot to mention
OBAMA 4 PRESIDENT!!!!!
Lord, I hope this man does not get shot at! Black people need to start sending their prayers up for this man’s safety RIGHT NOW!
Let me wipe some water on my face because I couldn’t believe it either.
I am one of those skeptics who doubts that a black man will ever sit in the oval office unless he’s invited there by the current president.
^Kind of true, but there’s faith!LOL.
And co sign Nadine, I mean as long as Oprah giving out free shit to majority of her white audiences its all good to them.But I hope they weren’t thinking of Oprah, but for their own sake.
I’m praying for him because in the south, you know them white folks aren’t about to have it!His family is beautiful.I’m not mad at Barack.
I pray that he wins this it will be truly history in the making It’a a new year & we are headed for new things & he is just what we need!! Honestly I would like to see him or Hilary but you all know they will never let a woman in white house why I don’t know but that would be a history making moment as well!! I know we heard all the jokes & myths about if we had a black president they would assasinate him I honestly don’t believe that, that would really ignorant!!
It was just as ignorant when they shot Martin Luther King, who wasn’t running for president. True enough it was a long time ago, but some of those Ku Klux Klan tribes still remain at large. If a terrorist would sacrafice his life to kill thousands of Americans for no reason what SO ever, why wouldn’t a skinhead do the same. JUST PRAY FOR THE BROTHER OK. We are living in the last days, God only knows WHAT will happen NEXT in this world.
I actually think its a little bit too early to start rejoicing but i think the only fact that he`s probably the first black man to win a caucus/primary for the united states presidential election in a predominantly white state is history in itself and like they say “ only in america“
i`m proud of those whites who have voted prooving the racists naysayers wrong
however i`m going to be more optimistic after the outcome of the new hampshire and south carolina primaries
I’m proud that he won the caucas. It’s still early and really that’s probably as close as we’ll get. I was just thinking the other day wow a women will be president before a black man. That’s when I knew Hillary would win. I still can’t decide who I trust.
But this was a great moment for a black man. I will also agree with the poster that said pray for him. If Obama becomes president there will probably be a lot of money put out there for his life. Those good ole boys in the south would die before they watch a black man run this country.
LOL @ Iron Man.
Picture Obama relating exactly how you shouted him out, on Oprah.
Krysi – yes the same one Says:
Lord, I hope this man does not get shot at! Black people need to start sending their prayers up for this man’s safety RIGHT NOW!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was just thinking how that picture reminds me of a Black version of the Kennedys!
To all the new Obama converts… Welcome to the party!
To the undecided and Hillary supporters… Turn off The Wire and turn on C-Span. Once you hear the brother speak, you’ll believe!
Obama ’08 – The time is now!
Bsoul:
I was just thinking how that picture reminds me of a Black version of the Kennedys!
Krysi:
DAmn…..it does.
I agree that we need to pray for his safety. I honestly thought I would be a lot older when a black person took this step. He is on my ticket! Obama in ’08!!!!!! Lets get behind him; United We Stand right?
