Brandy Norwood’s fans were saddened to learn she canceled her concerts at D.C’s Kennedy Center because she was too sick to perform. But according to The Daily Mail UK, Brandy canceled her concerts after she was told she couldn’t lip-sync.
The 39-year-old R&B singer canceled her January 25-26 shows at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and blamed the cancellations on various illnesses.
The ‘Moesha’ star even produced a doctor’s note excusing her absence because she was too ill to perform.
“I’ve been rehearsing since last year and I’m disappointed I was unable to perform. I’m going to follow the doctor’s advice,” she said at the time.
But insiders tell the Daily Mail the real reason behind the cancellations was Brandy wasn’t allowed to lip-sync her performance.
Sources tell The Mail Brandy was uncomfortable singing live and she wanted to lip-sync parts of the songs. The source said Brandy had a meltdown when she was told she couldn’t lip-sync.
“Brandy didn’t want to sing live, bottom line. She became unhinged and ultimately pulled the plug on the entire weekend,” the source said.
The source added that artists never lip-sync at the Kennedy Center where they are accompanied by a live orchestra.
“We were told it was stage fright,” the source continued. “Whatever her phobias, you just don’t lip sync in front of an orchestra.”
