Actress Regina Hall feared her mother was having a stroke after she took a little too much CBD oil for her arthritis pain. The Girls Trip star revealed her mom’s health scare during a guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night.
Cannabidiol oil (CBD) is a non-intoxicating marijuana extract that is credited with treating a variety of ailments including epileptic seizures in children, anxiety, inflammation and insomnia.
Regina stopped by Kimmel’s show to promote her new movie Little. Kimmel quickly directed the conversation back to the time when she told him she gave medical marijuana and CBD oil to her dog Zeus, who was suffering from canine health issues.
Regina, 48, explained that, sadly, her dog Zeus had passed away since she was last on the show in July 2017.
She said she still had some of the dog’s medical marijuana and CBD oil left over and she had taken the leftover oil to help her sleep.
Regina said she also gives the CBD oil to her mother Ruby Hall to help relieve her arthritis pain.
“I gave her a little and I took a little. It’s not an edible, it’s an oil – it is in a tube,” she said. “It’s the consistency of like honey or tar. And you put a little bit on a cracker, a cookie. This is to help heal.”
She said her mother took too much oil. “I knew it was too much. I said, ‘Mommy, that’s too much,’ and her quote was, ‘That little dab you give me, barely does enough!'”
Regina and Ruby proceeded to watch TV together, but when it was time to go to bed, the actress discovered that her mother was unable to move her mouth.
“I said, ‘Mommy are you having a stroke? And she said, ‘I think so.'”
“I called the ambulance. We went to the hospital, she had on my Think Like a Man Too robe. We were panicked.”
Once at the hospital, the doctor found nothing wrong with Ruby’s MRI scan and other diagnostic tests.
However, the doctor became suspicious when he overheard Regina’s friend, who she was talking to on her phone, asking if she had taken any “stuff”. The friend yelled, “I think you b-tches are high!”
“(The doctor) was not amused. He said, ‘Why are you whispering?’ And my girlfriend was still on the phone and she goes, ‘Yeah, you’ve been whispering all night.’ I didn’t know (I was whispering!)” Regina said.
CBD oil is extracted from the flowers and buds of marijuana or hemp plants. It does not cause an intoxicating “high” which is caused by tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in weed.
