An Arizona man told police he murdered his wife and 2 of his daughters because the girls reminded him of their mother and not himself.

Austin Smith, 30, reportedly told police he spared his youngest daughter because she takes after him and not her mother.

Police say Smith went on a shooting rampage at 2 crime scenes in Phoenix on Thursday.

He reportedly went drinking at a bar on Thursday night before going home and accusing his wife, Dasia Patterson, of cheating on him with his brother.

Patterson, 29, denied cheating on him, but Smith reportedly shot her before turning the weapon on his 5-year-old daughter, Nasha Smith.

Smith then killed his 7-year-old daughter, Mayan Smith, who died of blunt force trauma to the head. He told police he struck her because she was crying.

According to police, Smith spared his youngest daughter, 3, because she reminded him of himself. Nasha and Mayan, he said, reminded him of his wife.

After the killings, Smith fled the scene and went looking for his brother. When he arrived at his brother’s apartment, he was met by a family friend, who tried to convince him his wife didn’t cheat on him.

Smith then fatally shot the friend, Ron Freeman, 46, who died at the scene, according to PEOPLE.

Austin also shot two more people inside the apartment – a man, 33, and a woman, 47. Both survived the shooting but the unidentified woman is in critical condition, according to KTLA5 news.

Police responding to a 911 call about shots fired at the apartment spotted the suspect’s car fleeing the scene. The car was stopped a short distance away.

Austin was taken into custody and charged with 4 counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault. He is currently being held without bail.

Police conducted a welfare check at Smith’s home and found the three bodies. The toddler was found hiding under a bed. She was not injured. The child is in the care of family members.
