A Waka Flocka Flame rap concert was canceled following a deadly shooting on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on Tuesday night, April 30. One man was taken into custody after a shooting on the campus which left two people dead and injured four more.

The rapper, real name Juaquin James Malphurs, was scheduled to perform a free gig for students at the Jerry Richardson Stadium on the campus alongside rapper Saweetie and boy band Next Town Down.

Waka, 32, took to Instagram to express his regret and share his prayers for those affected by the tragedy.

“I pray all my fans are safe and ok! (Not) sure what’s going on, I just landed in Charlotte to terry [sic] news!” he wrote on his Instagram Stories. “I will not be able to perform or even make it to the venue. Please to all my supporters and followers be safe.”

He later tweeted to concerned fans that he was “nowhere around” the university and was “safe”.

Suspect Trystan Andrew Terrell, 22, was taken into custody by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department after he was disarmed of his pistol by two or three campus officers, according to Mercury News.

The motive for the shootings is unclear. “I just went into a classroom and shot the guys,” the suspect told reporters Tuesday as officers led him away in handcuffs.

He faces two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder.
