Beyonce sparked a furious backlash on Twitter.com on Wednesday after cameras caught her flashing a rude glance at a woman talking to her husband, Jay-Z, during Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
The incident occurred as Beyonce and her rapper husband sat at courtside in $75,000 seats to watch the Golden State Warriors take on the Toronto Raptors at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.
As they watched the action on court, a woman sitting next to Beyonce leaned across the belly dancer to chat with Jay-Z, causing the mother-of-three to flash her a rude look.
The woman was later identified as Nicole Curran – the wife of Golden State Warriors’ owner Joe Lacob.
A video of the incident was shared on Twitter by sports network ESPN, which prompted a furious backlash against the “Formation” singer. Many Twitter users believe Beyonce was wrong to disrespect the team owner’s wife.
But members of Beyonce’s fiercely loyal BeyHive were quick to jump to her defense, saying maybe she thought the woman was just a fan – someone who doesn’t deserve her respect.
One Twitter user said Beyonce should have known better than to disrespect any VIP sitting in expensive courtside seats. Others pointed out that Beyonce is rude to all fans when she thinks no one is looking.
“I would leave the earth if Beyonce looked this ready to smack me,” one fan wrote. Another fans referenced Beyonce’s infamous lyric about “Becky with the good hair” from her track “Sorry” – tweeting: “What the f**k were you trying to ask him? The f**k was so important Becky??????? WHAT WAS THE REASON!”
The war of tweets and bee emojis raged on for hours after the Warriors lost Game 3 to the Raptors 123-109. It was the team’s first home loss in Oracle Arena in the NBA Finals.
