Ciara Wilson opened up about how her parents got divorced after 33 years of marriage. The Seattle homemaker and part-time singer confirmed the news on RuPaul’s upcoming talk show.
The “Level Up” singer said her parents’ divorce was “very out of body” for her.
“I’ve never said this before. I think I can say it with okay in myself,” the mom-of-2 told RuPaul.
“My parents have been married for 33 years. And they’re not together anymore” she said before adding, “My mother and father are now happily married. I never thought I’d be okay with that but I really am. I’m happy that they’re happy.”
Ciara’s parents actually divorced in 2015, a year after her first child, Future Zahir Wilburn was born.
Ciara and then-fiancé Future Hendrix called off their engagement just three months after she gave birth. She told RuPaul she regretted not having a 2-parent home – with a mommy and daddy – for her son.
“Imagine you go for 33 years of mom and dad being together and when I had my child, my son, my first child, I was like, I just know mommy and daddy that made [a] baby was what the scenario was supposed to be,” she continued. “That was like, whoa, when that happened.”
CiCi’s now-husband, NFL quarterback and Super Bowl XLVIII winner Russell Wilson, 30, came into her life when her parents divorced.
Ciara expressed her concern that she will make the same mistakes her parents made – staying in an unhappy marriage for decades.
“The one thing I fear in life is really wasting my life,” she told Jada Pinkett Smith on a recent episode of “Red Table Talk.”
“I really fear that ’cause you realize that time does not stop, and it will be the worst scenario to stay in a situation that it’s just not healthy, it’s not going to get any better. I realized that I have to start making different decisions,” she said.
