Open Post: Why do we need Beyonce to tell us we’re beautiful?

Some Black women are furious with mixed race singer Beyonce Knowles-Carter for implying that her song “Brown Skin Girls” is needed to convince Black women we’re beautiful.

Black women everywhere are posting testimonials under the social media hashtag #BrownSkinGirl, named after Beyonce’s song.

But the song launched a debate about placing value on skin color. In response to the furor, Beyonce uploaded a video to her Instagram page that shows dark skinned women and girls singing along to the lyrics of “Brown Skin Girl”.

According to Madamenoire.com, Beyonce “went out of her way” to celebrate “marginalized women”. So now dark skinned women are marginalized?

Question: Do Black women really need Beyonce to tell us we’re beautiful?
