Last night, while doing my unusual research on social networking website Twitter.com, I came across this tweet from an upset follower who asked if I would put a mother on blast for “abusing” her kids.
I clicked on the link and saw a photo of a woman posing with 2 smiling children — one of whom was nestled snuggly between her oversized breasts.
I assumed the woman had just breast fed the youngest child, which would be inappropriate if she did it in front of a Twitter user who then Twitpic’d the photo.
At first glance, the photo disturbed me a little. But then I reminded myself that African tribal women often proudly displayed their ample breasts long before we were sold out by our tribal leaders and shipped to America in the 18th century.
So why does this picture make so many people physically uncomfortable?

I don’t know, but I don’t think she was getting in touch with her African roots and I’m sure Children and Family Services would probably feel the same way. I’m a therapist and work with children and this would be consider inappropriate and probably abuse.

I am sure someone will be or has alreay knocked on her door to remove the children. That is not a breastfed child as he looks too old for that and even if she were doing so….WHO TOOK A PICTURE AND POSTED IT TO THE WEBSITE? CHIBY… those people aforementioned are all adults now. We dont know what they look liked as children shortly after there torment and abuse. Remember all of those people as well as ourselves have overcome…meaning we have rised and by his grave we are what we are today. You couldnt look at me now and tell I was an abused child. Well he appears to be a genuinely good person but I dont think you should insinuate he has issues because his mom walked around naked. Some people are raised in that type of environment and that doesn’t mean that they’re being abused or have look at their mother in any type of sexual way
I think we’ve all seen our family members naked walking around the house. My mom still walks around in her bra, but its her house and we are grown as hell. It becomes abuse when they start wrapping their body parts around your head and possibly smothering you.

IMO, I dont think its appropriate to walk around kids in the nude…my mother did that chit and it used to make me sick to my stomach when I used to tell her to put on some clothes and she’s say “this is my muthafukking house and I can walk around any way I want to” at this poing my other brother was like 11 or 12….I feel like if its ok for him to see mama naked why cant he look at dirty magazines or porn…its the same nudity…. my mama used to let my stepfather walk around in his drawers ALL the time….I used to think that somethin was wrong with that cause when I visited my daddy every other weekend he never did that and my step mom always made me and my sisters get dressed before we could go downstairs…..

He walks around the house in his boxers all the time when the children are not home but if they are, that is off limits for him. I dont care that much…in fact my son is at the “UGH” stage. I am not going to force him to be “UGH”ed so I am cautious to be appropriate around him. I will not however care if I am in the comforts of my own room.
I spent the night over a friends house when we were in the eigth grade and her mother which was a short and petite little woman came out the room stark naked cussing her out in front of me.. I was like
I know she see me sitting here but she didnt care and my friend… was not embarrased by her moms nakedness but because she was getting chastised in front of me.

Some people in my family are/were more open about showing their bodies than others. I was well into high school and I would still see my mother go topless. At the same time, I was helping my grandmother on/off the toilet and in/out of the bath tub.
I even have sisters that have no problem walking around almost naked and using the bathroom with the door open. When it was just females in the house I didn’t mind that so much but I had to say something when I got my kids.
I don’t do any of that just because I find that kind of thing uncomfortable. Plus, I have boys and I agree with CHIBY that being completely naked around them past a certain age isn’t cool. Being topless?
Do I think it’s also mentally and emotionally scarring in some way? I can’t say. I think it depends on the child and parent and the parent’s reasons for it.

My family wasn’t too uptight with nudity as I was growing up, my grandmother would sometimes walk through half or undressed and we never thought anything of it. Now, did she walk around fondling us and stuff while she was naked? NOT AT All! My mom will literally call us in the bathroom til this day while she’s in the tub, me, my sister and daughter think nothing of it. Now my brother, he stopped exposing himself to it when he hit his teen years but, I bet if either of them fell in the floor butt ass nekkid he wouldn’t give a thought to lending a hand.
We all have issues in life but, I can guarantee that none of them came from seeing nudity in my family’s home.

No running around in just her t-shirt and panties like she may be able to do when it’s just us. It’s not that we think he is going to do anything to her. But, that’s just how it is.
