Just to be clear: I don’t believe Barack Obama will be assassinated when he is elected to the oval office in November. This is the way older folks (older than me) think. Those of us who didn’t experience the struggles of the civil rights era know that the world has changed a lot since then. So git yo’ ass out and vote!
Thanks to loyal reader Angela Watts for the link!
AMEN!!!! Obama’08…..Yeah Baby!!!!
I’m probably younger than you but I still feel that way. I don’t care how far this world has come since the civil rights days it still has a long way to go. There is still enough racism in the world to keep it a relevant issue. I could be totally wrong but I still feel like there will be attempts to kill Obama if elected. Guess we’ll see when or if it happens.
Thats sad that people think that I aint gonna lie it has crossed my mind but I look at all the thing we have accomplished, we have actually come a long way, we have a black man & a woman running for president one of which is sure to win so that right there is monumental!!! All I want to know is was Obama serious when he said he was gonna make Oprah his VP, cause yall know girlfriend dont play she gets **** done!!
Does that mean I need sit grandmas and grandpas down and have this special talk with them??
sheryl underwood summed this up perfectly: white women love obama. period. i know ya’ll see that. and most importantly – AINT nobody shooting through no crowd of white women. no worries!
LoL…I’m sure they love him even more with Oprah behind him.
I am sure that there are a lot of people that think that way, but that SHOULD NOT stop us from voting. I know that I will be voting for Obama without a doubt because he IS the best person for the job. A lot of people are not going to like it if he gets in but if its apart of God’s plan then NO MAN can stop it. Just pray for him and don’t worry.
This is the most critical election EVER….Get out and VOTE people!!!!
I’m with you nia. Just pray, or just be hopeful that after all these freaking years a “change” WILL come!
That has to be the wackest poem I’ve ever heard. Then he has the nerve to put his grandmother in it. These are his own thoughts about Obama’s fate, he’s just too much of a coward to stand behind his words. I truly believe that Obama, in some cases, is a black MAN’s fear. You see many of our men, didnt grow up in homes where they had positive black male role models. Many of them, like this man, where probably raised by a single mother or grandmother. So they don’t know what it is to believe that a black man can actually run anything and have passion about it while doing it well. Kind of like a father runs a household. Another thing is the power issue. Many brothers have that crab in a bucket syndrome. Where they’re busy trying to keep up. Well, now with Obama being president, even he wealthiest black man in world can’t say he’s the most powerful. A big ego bruiser for most men. Our grandmothers and grandfathers didn’t face the water-hoses, biting dogs, police batons, wrongful imprisonment, hangings, cross burnings, church burnings, having to go in through the back door, being whipped, raped, spat on, overworked, fed scraps, taken from our homeland…for us to not get to this point. We ought to be thanking God that we’ve come father in 40 years than we could in over 400 years. I’m not saying we don’t still have more barriers to break down but I know that right now–I’m so proud to know that a black man– a smart, family-oriented, purpose-driven man, has chance to be one of the most powerful people in the world. And I’m all for that. Our people deserve that. Our ancestors deserve that. And I think I speak for all his supporters when I say that there would be a huge backlash if anything harmful happened to that him.
VOTE OBAMA 2008!!!!
@ Jamil 2008 earlier post
Sorry for the grammatical errors in my post. I never proofread when I want to get my point off fast:)
This is realistic fear but I’m not convinced that it will happen. I know when he first announced his bid he allegedly beefed up his security so I am sure that he is well aware of the dangers. I am sure that some crazy ppl may want to kill Hillary as well. But I doubt there were’nt just attempts on Black figures lives there were also attempted assasinations on previous U.S. Presidents and if no on tried to kill Bush we’ve come along way baby.lol
One thing people need to know that public figures like Obama got security believe that even with former presidents such as Jimmy Carter. So I don’t think that will be a to much of an issue or Bush would been dead long time ago(God Forbid).
But think like that dude in the video, you will never go anywhere or never progress.Just stay right there where he at.
From what I’m seeing, most of you seem to think that just because someone has a feeling like there would be a bounty out for Obama being elected that it would keep one from voting for him. That couldn’t be any further from the truth. If that is his fate and he wants it then so be it. I’m just stating a claim.
I could say alot to your comments Jamil but I won’t. Let’s just say that I grew up in that home you talked about but not because of an unfit father. Therefore my views on what a black man can do and be are quite different than you might think. I like to think of myself as living proof that a black man can be well educated and successful contrary to popular belief.
Well it’s ran across my mind but, I suppose that what’s meant to be, will be.
@AaronMichael
Unfortunately I do know two people, my parents, who will not be voting for Obama on Super Tuesday because of fears that he will be assassinated. They are in their late 50s and early 60s and lived in Arkansas and Alabama during the 60s so they know segregation first hand: back of the bus, colored water fountains, etc. Anyway my point is there is a huge generational divide among blacks who lived through the civil rights era and those of us fortunate enough to only have to read about what went down in the 50s and 60s. So these experiences do affect this particular demographic’s vote.
Are you younger than 26? Yea. I will however give you some credit for being correct about a much OLDER person raising me and having influence on some of my opinions, this one in particular.
I didn’t get to watch the video as it’s been pulled off. What was the dude saying?
I think He’ll be fine, hell they protested when Bush was going in to the white House for the 1st time and he didnt get shot.
Sitting here in England, its interesting to see the comments from various people. I’ve heard from so many peolpe in the States and here hoe they believe that Obama will be assassinated if he became president. I must admit it sends a chill down my spine. I’m on the obama team heart and soul and hope that it doesn’t happen. It’s about time America got a president who has the Black peoples interest at heart. I wish Obama all the best. And maybe as a black person Iam biased, but I hope he does win.
I truly believe that racism is still out there very strong!! And with the hatred of some people, I do believe someone will try and do something to Obama…but being the individual he is, he’s still going to go for it and stand up for what’s right, and that’s why he has my vote!! GO OBAMA!!
As someone with a so called ethnic name…if a man by the name of Barack Hussein Obama can be our potential next U.S. President, then maybe all of us ethnic name people can get more call backs when we apply for jobs. And I mean that seriously.
Everyone please go vote regardless, just put your vote in. Whoever you vote for. But understand that on election night in November anything is possible. In 2000 (my first year voting) I learned popular votes don’t count, its whoever they want. In 2004, I still voted. And will continue to do so, whether it counts or not.
