Yesterday, Nike announced the release of 1,500 limited edition pairs of Nike MAGS, the futuristic trainers that Marty McFly wore in the hit 1989 film ‘Back to the Future’.
According to Nicekicks.com owner Matt Halfhill, who was flown out to LA for the shoe unveiling Thursday, the cartoonish trainers comes with a battery pack and the Nike logo lights up like the ones in the movie. But unlike the movie version, the shoes are not self lacing.
After the unveiling, which saw lines of invitees wrapped around the building, the shoes were placed on eBay for auction with all the “net” proceeds going to benefit the Michael J Fox Foundation to fund research to fight Parkinson’s disease.
Fox presented The Late Show’s David Letterman with his own pair.
Currently the shoes are bidding on eBay for around $7,000 a pair. At least some of the money will go to charity.
I got nothing. Wait, it does look like a shoe that supports the ankles.

and those shoes are dope!!!! but I wouldn’t drop 7k on them though 
now if they were nicely priced I would most def cop a pair for my little man 
i thought i had a chance one of the bids last night was $70,000. i was gonna be happy to drop 1k on them but the average bid for my side is 5k.

for people who are into sneakers this was like one of the greatest shoes that was never made. like there are facebook petitions and actually website petitions that have been going on for nearly 10 years to get these shoes made. NOBODY in the sneaker community thought they would ever be released since its been so long. 100% of the proceeds go to charity so its technically not a waste its the same as if you straight up donated to a charity you still get hte same tax benefits and all. i just didnt think they bidding would be so high. but these are like the holy grail of limited edition shoes so i shouldnt be that surprised.
