TV judge Greg Mathis has spoken out about the execution of cop killer Troy Davis. Davis, 42, was put to death by lethal injection on Wednesday at Georgia’s Diagnostic and Statistics prison for the shooting death of Savannah police Officer Mark MacPhail.
Judge Mathis offered his opinions about the case from the set of his television show.
“Despite the overwhelming doubt surrounding his guilt, Davis never received a new trial and was unjustly put to death by a lethal injection.” said Mathis, who added that Georgia had “blood on its hands” for executing Davis.
But Mathis was incorrect when he said Davis never received a new trial.
As many in the liberal media have already pointed out, Davis was granted an unprecedented chance to prove his innocence in 2009 when the U.S. Supreme court, citing a “substantial risk of putting an innocent man to death,” granted Davis a stay of execution and ordered a federal court in Georgia to hear Davis’ new evidence.
Davis’s attorneys were given an opportunity to present those 7 witnesses who claimed they were coerced into ID’ing Davis. But Davis’ attorneys refused to call several of those witnesses to the stand. Most likely because it would be obvious to the presiding judge that they were lying — or they didn’t want to perjure themselves under oath.
But as usual, Mathis and all the other Davis apologists ignore the obvious facts in the case and choose instead to offer their opinions based on their emotions.
It’s a good thing Judge Mathis doesn’t sit on the U.S. Supreme Court. There’s a reason why he’s a TV judge.
Watch Judge Mathis’ statement after the break.

I wonder why his lawyers didn’t call all of the witnesses who recanted to the stand?
I really wish I could jump on the bandwagon with this one: but troy was not only present at both of the shootings, he also had more than enough time and space to ditch the murder weapon. He could have dumped it while hiding out in the back of his sisters car. I don’t understand why he ran in the first place.. I mean, the other dudes that were there didn’t run, And his own friend is the one who told the police what happened. If he didn’t do it, he must’ve knew who did.. being that he was there at the time of both shooting… that has to be the weirdest coincidence in the history of coincidences-
I dont favor the death penalty, but hey, I dont make the rules either. May he finally RIP
idc what no one says ga has blood on its hands.
I’m tired of this case, really. Somebody better prove the man innocent or let it go.
tad may have been guilty but too much doubt for death

Judge Greg Mathis!!!! Omg I swear he is so funny. And please don’t go to his court if you’re a crackhead or expect to get clowned!
Of the seven recantations, Moore found that only one was wholly credible and two who were partly credible.[99][106] He did not consider Coles’ alleged confessions because of the failure of Davis’s lawyers to subpoena Coles, and suggested that Davis should appeal directly to the Supreme Court.[
Judge Mathis is cool as heyul, he just strikes me as the type that buy puss-cee!

A black man with no money!!
I’m so over this case…and Sandra, I’m leaning toward agreeing with you 100%. For the longest I didn’t really have an opinion because I didn’t know all the variables…but something tells me that this man had PLENTY of time to prove his innocence, even if he was poor and black…Iono, I’m gonna stay away from these posts like I’ve been doing for the past week…
I don’t know if he did it or not BUUUTTT if GA favors execution why was Samuel David Crowe’s sentence commuted to life in prison hours before he was scheduled to die Thursday? Now this man takes full responsibility for his crime and he murdered a store manager of a lumber company. What is the difference? Both convicted of murder both scheduled to die but one is given a pardon. Again I’m not saying Davis is innocent or not I’m saying one admits to guilty has his life spared the other was tryin to prove innocence and killed. Something doesn’t smell right if you ask me, JMO.
“On the evening of August 19, Redd Coles (Troy Davis’s friend) went to the police. He told them that he had seen Davis with a .38-caliber gun, and that Davis had assaulted Young. The same evening, Davis drove to Atlanta with his sister. In the early morning of August 20, 1989, the Savannah police, suspecting Davis and seeking a murder weapon, converged on the Davis home. Having sealed off the area, the police searched the house, and a pair of shorts belonging to Davis were found in a dryer and confiscated. Police issued a reward for information leading to Davis’s arrest.Davis’s family began negotiating with police, motivated by concerns about his safety.”

@iscream lol he call EVERYBODY either a crackhead or a dope fiend. Tha man is crazy. I like his show though.

I’m with you all the way on this one Sandra. There HAD to have been more to the story than what was being put out. Like I said on twitter there is NO way that many people reviewing and re-evaluating the evidence (old and new) got it wrong. NO. WAY.
Like @WCC said if Coles was the “real” shooter why is it that he satyed and Davis is the one who fled?
And it’s all about what you can prove in court. The witnesses can say ALL DAY that they were forced to make statements and lie but IF THEY DON”T GET THEIR ASSES BACK IN THE COURT ROOM AND SAY THAT then it doesn’t even matter. They were willing to lie and put a man on death row but weren’t willing to stand up and testify in the new trial? Ok…
Nyedai:
Georgia knew exactly what they were doing when they spared this mans life! They made it clear, because you admitted your role and have shown remorse we will spare your life! Mr. Davis since you are still adamant that you didn’t kill that officer and we believe that you are in fact guilty, you will be punished by death!! They wanted Troy to admitt his guilt and he wouldn’t!!!
I honestly think the friend did it

How is it impossible when the Supreme Court gave him a new trial in 2009? Look how many chances Davis had to prove his innocence and he still couldn’t do it. The fact that he was convicted for another shooting earlier that day AND the same bullets were found at both scenes AND 9 witnesses swore under oath that he was the shooter means he was guilty. Case closed.
I’ve been saying all along why aren’t his lawyers doing more than just going off of 7 witnesses recanted their story. It’s not the state of GA, it’s the person that failed him who have blood on their hands.
So because a/b points SR made in 18, you gain momemtum and try to rely on sensationalism of a case to get sympathy, or stall. Stalling played out, dont think sympathy was there from the beginning. Again, in 22 years they couldn’t come up with their new evidence. You can’t blame what happened in the midnight hour and forget all that was not done (lawyers, defense) before that time.
I would feel some other way if they were trying to put him to death a year after a verdict. I’d then feel like what is the rush. 22 years, boy stop.
@ Nyedai – I think its because troy “allegedly” killed a police officer.. they throw the book at you for that type of stuff
@19, bite your tongue. I’ve been saying that for years, and again in one SR’s post yesterday. Just freakin tell what you do know. Stop forcing trials to drag out, while you just sit on the side forcing someone to prove you did it. I’m tired of that schit.
Troy was strung out on drugs and had a a bad rap sheet! I really believe he in fact did it! The problem I have with GA is how they operate when it comes to the law! The main reason I left there! In Sav. GA you can go to the polie with your homegirl and say I shot at you, and a warrant will be issued for my arrest! So because Troy ran it made it easier for the friend to implicate him and be a witness for the state, securing him immunity!
My grandpa had Judge Mathis come here to talk to high and college graduates and the basketball teams that had one the championships that year and he was so mean and acted like he couldn’t take pictures or talk to anybody but his bodyguard was cool and was trying to talk to my sis until he found out she was my grandpa granddaughter.

Not only that I started thinking personally if I know I didn’t do something then I’m not gonna cop to it. There is noway I would have something attached to my name that I didn’t rightful get myself. That is why everyone knows if you wit me and do some dirt you will be the only one walking around dirty cause I will sing like Anita Baker and that wanna be Prince look alike off the X factor! And when did we start rewarding people for owning up to killing people??? Economy is bad enough but yet and still they think its okay to let the law abiding tax paying citizens in GA pay for this man to live out the rest of his life on their dime, just because he took responsibility? Some justice.
@ Jerrica – he prolly needed to get his “purchase of puss-cee” fix!

In December 2001, Davis filed a habeas corpus petition in the United States District Court.[48] From 1996 onwards, seven of the nine principal prosecution eyewitnesses changed all or part of their trial testimony.[50][51] Dorothy Ferrell, for example, stated in a 2000 affidavit that she felt under pressure from police to identify Davis as the shooter because she was on parole for a shoplifting conviction.[51] In a 2002 affidavit, Darrell Collins wrote that the police had scared him into falsely testifying by threatening to charge him as an accessory to the crime, and alleged that he had not seen Davis do anything to Young.[52] Antoine Williams, Larry Young and Monty Holmes also stated in affidavits that their earlier testimony implicating Davis had been coerced by strong-arm police tactics.[27] In addition, three witnesses signed affidavits stating that Redd Coles had confessed to the murder to them
That Redd Cole person seems suspect, but to my knowledge, Troy has never implicated him. (but other witness did, and he supposedly confessed)

You’d have had to live in Savannah during that time and know how they operate to understand! If it wasn’t Troy somebody black was going to pay for that murder! They granted him a new trial IF he could show there was NEW evidence and his lawyers were unable to do so!! However the balistic specialist could not 100% confirm that the same gun was used to shoot both the homeless guy & McPhail although the bullets from both scenes were a match!
The moral of the story is not rather he was guilty or not, it was the fact that he didn’t recieve a fair trial in the beginning! Sandra if 9 people got together and corroborated a story against you, you wouldn’t be so quick to say guilty~ case closed! No lawyer in there right mind will ever risk a trial by putting an unreliable witness on the stand to testify because all of their past transgressions will be magnified!!
@ SexxxyDimeDiva: Troy Davis was convicted of another shooting earlier that day so we know he had a gun. 9 witnesses testified they saw him stand over MacPhail and shoot him. The bullets from both crime scenes matched. Case closed.
Whether he was guilty or not, he spent 20 years in prison. He spent 20 years behing bars awaiting to be killed. That in itself is punishment. Imagine if you were sitting in a cell day in and day out not knowing when the day would come that people would inject you with poison to kill you. That’s punishment. Our judicial system sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m tired of people playing God. Guilty or not…. eye for an eye is never the way to go.

______
And there’s a reason why you are a blogger. Smh…I’m quite sure Judge Mathis had a career far before he became a tv judge as you felt the need to say. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. You put Ann Coulter, someone who prides herself on being controversial on your site the other day which was laughable all in itself. But then you were fine with her opinion. Judge Mathis states his and you belittle him. Really? Regardless to what you think if there was any ounce of a shadow of a doubt of that man’s guilt then he should not have been executed. I don’t care if ONLY 1 witness recanted.
People always have this opinion or that, but until it happens to them, then they really get a dose of what it feels like. If…IF the day does come that he is proven innocent or other information exists..then yes I guess GA does have blood on their hands. Until then let the man R.I.P…continually throwing dirt on him just makes people look spiteful. He’s dead and gone..now it is what it is.
If Troy Davis was an innocent man with a clean record who had an alibi for that night, I could see him saying he was innocent. But the guy was a loser who already shot someone earlier that day in full view of witnesses. He obviously didn’t care who he shot or how many people saw him. I don’t feel sorry for him. Good riddance.
I don’t know anything about this case and don’t care to learn
PREACH!
@SexxxxxxxxyDimeDiva If 34 people said you did something but only 9 lied about it what would you say then?
———
And people keep saying that Killing him won’t bring the officer back but Killing any inmate on death row won’t bring someone back. No one is out there marching for them. No one is signing petitions for them. If you’re against the death penalty don’t just get enraged when you feel there is injustice. Stand against it EVERY time. 35 people were executed this year but no one cared about the other 34 I guess…
@ SexxxyDimeDiva- I so agree with you that he did not rcv a fair trial. And I think the fact that a cop was killed it the reason the judge wanted to hurry and convict someone for it
but the cards were heavily stacked against him by being linked to both crime scenes and the fleeing the state the morning after – not to mention the previous convictions, that basically says he has poor judgement and no repect for the law anyway
That “preach” was to ssweetheart85.
I’ve posted many exhaustive comments on this subject. Bottom line is humans are imperfect, the government is imperfect since humans run it. The only way to guarantee no innocent person gets executed is to not have executions period. The same night Troy Davis was killed, the state of Texas put to death Lawrence Brewer who was convicted in the racially motivated dragging death of James Byrd Jr. There was no doubt of his guilt and he said he didn’t regret what he did. If we want to keep the death penalty available for such as he then we will have to accept that at some point in the past of future an innocent person has been or will be executed.
Troy Davis never received a new trial. He died fighting for that to happen. The Supreme Court did order to lower courts to look at his case and placed a very high burden on Troy to prove his innocence which he was unable to do. But no new trial was ever granted in this case.
What you mean? He has been appealing this since he was found guilty. Half of you just been hearing about it when it started to more of a focus in the news. Anyway, with all the reasonable doubt of this so called evidence they should have atleast give Troy Davis a retrial. Simple as that. Nearly all of the witnesses said they was forced by the police to say what they did and countless of other stuff. Come on now. For goodness sake they let Casey Anthony out. This may have been about race not only that but also principle as well. If Troy Davis had the money he would have been out already

You have the cops and others shooting innocent people everyday should they be put down? Or because they are wearing a uniform should that matter? And most of them dont care who they shoot
Funny thing is people say if he was a man with a clean record, blah, blah..do innocent people not get convicted daily? People without records..maybe in the wrong place at the wrong time? Smh…let’s just hope those who judge so strongly have the money, knowledge of the justice system, etc..if God forbid something like this occurs to them….Now I said Good Day(in Ray Charles/Jamie Foxx voice)
You know, I think it was wrong that he was executed but there are many others out there just like him and because people tend to normally think as Auntie Sandra does (no offense intended so don’t ban me), won’t get a fair shake. Period.
Honestly though, I’m tired of hearing everyone talk about what happened that night. None of US where there. We don’t know the facts, however there seriously was too much doubt for him to be killed. @ Secret – I got chu
yall still here?
It was my 30th birthday and I wasn’t feeling too great when I woke up that morning.
I went down to breakfast knowing my wife would be pleasant and say “Happy Birthday” and probably have a present for me.
She didn’t even say “Good Morning,” let alone “Happy Birthday.”
I figured, “Well, that’s wives for you. The children will remember.” The children came down to breakfast and didn’t say a word.
When I started to the office I was feeling pretty low and despondent. As I walked into my office, my secretary Janet said, “Good Morning, Boss, Happy Birthday.”
I felt a little better – at least someone had remembered.
I worked until noon, then Janet knocked on my door and said, “You know, it is such a beautiful day outside and it’s your birthday, let’s go to lunch, just you and me.”
I said, “That’s the greatest thing I’ve heard all day. Let’s go.
We went to lunch. We didn’t go where we normally go. We went out into the country to a little private place. We had two martinis and enjoyed lunch tremendously.
On the way back to the office, she said, “You know, it is such a beautiful day, we don’t need to go back to the office, do we?” I said, “No, I guess not.” She said, “Let’s go to my apartment.”
After arriving at her apartment, she smiled at me and said, “If you don’t mind, I think I’ll go into the bedroom and slip into something more comfortable.”
Mad at my wife for forgetting about my birthday, not to mention that Janet was quite beautiful, I felt justified in staying. “Sure,” I excitedly replied.
She went into the bedroom and, after a few minutes, she came out carrying a big birthday cake, followed by my wife, children and dozens of our friends.
They were all singing Happy Birthday… and there I sat on the couch… naked.

e pretty teacher was concerned with one of her eleven-year-old students. Taking him aside after class one day,she asked, “Little Johnny, why has your school work been so poor lately?”
“I’m in love,” the boy replied.
Holding back an urge to smile, she asked, “With whom?”
“With YOU!” he said.
“But Johnny,” she said gently, “don’t you see how silly that is? It’s true that I would like a husband of my own someday. But I don’t want a child.”
“Oh, don’t worry,” the boy said reassuringly, “I’ll use a rubber!”
I love me some Judge Mathis! I watch his show everyday.
I got one of my own:
Dear Wife:
I’m writing this letter to tell you that I’m leaving you forever. I’ve been a good man to you for seven years, and I have nothing to show for it. These last two weeks have been hell. Your boss called to tell me that you quit your job today, and that was the last straw. Last week, you came home and didn’t even notice that I had a new haircut, had cooked your favorite meal, and even wore a brand new pair of silk boxers. You ate in two minutes, and went straight to sleep after watching all of your soaps. You don’t tell me you love me anymore; you don’t want sex or anything that connects us as husband and wife. Either you’re cheating on me, or you don’t love me anymore; whatever the case, I’m gone.
Your Ex-Husband
P.S. Don’t try to find me. Your sister Carla and I are moving away to West Virginia together. Have a great life!
Response
Dear Ex-Husband,
Nothing has made my day more than receiving your letter. It’s true that you and I have been married for seven years, although a good man is a far cry from what you’ve been. I watch my soaps so much to try to drown out your constant whining and griping. Too bad that doesn’t work. I did notice when you got a hair cut last week, but the first thing that came to mind was “You look just like a girl!” Since my mother raised me not to say anything if you can’t say something nice, I didn’t comment. And when you cooked my favorite meal, you must have gotten me confused with Carla, because I stopped eating pork seven years ago. About those new silk boxers: I turned away from you because the $49.99 price tag was still on them, and I prayed that it was a coincidence that she had just borrowed fifty dollars from me that morning. After all of this, I still loved you and felt that we could work it out. So when I hit the lotto for ten million dollars, I quit my job and bought us two tickets to Jamaica. But when I got home you were gone. Everything happens for a reason, I guess. I hope you have the fulfilling life you always wanted. My lawyer said that the letter you wrote ensures you won’t get a dime from me. So take care.

P.S. I don’t know if I ever told you this, but Carla was born Carl. I hope that’s not a problem.

I swear, some black people are so ignorant. Troy Davis NEVER got a new trial. There was a hearing to see if he should get a new trial. We are talking about Georgia. If Troy Davis was crazy enough to kill people in front of a total of 34 witnesses, why is there no DNA evidence? This man must’ve been a genius. I mean, come on, we’ve never heard of the police framing someone. And Georgia isn’t a southern state with a history of racism. #can’tdoignorantpeople #checkyourfacts
Troy Davis was a sacrificed…there is a lot of blood on a lot of hands. The day he was executed was a high Satanic Holy Day…he was always going to be executed….they just needed to wait until the autumn equinox.
