A Dallas teenager, missing since 2010, has now been found pregnant and jailed in a foreign country.
According to published reports, American teenager Jakadrien Turner was 13 when she ran away from home after her grandfather died and her parents divorced in 2010.
Jakadrien turned up a year later, in Houston, Texas, where she was arrested for shoplifting at age 14. Jakadrien had no ID on her when she gave police a false name, which coincidentally belonged to an illegal immigrant who was flagged by ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) for deportation.
According to WFAA:
ICE officials stepped in… took the girl’s fingerprints, but somehow didn’t confirm her identity and deported her to Colombia, where the Colombian government gave her a work card and released her.
Jakadrien found work cleaning homes as a maid in a Spanish-speaking country where she did not understand the language. After months of searching, Jakadrien’s grandmother found the girl working in Bogota, Columbia. She is 15 now, and pregnant.
The grandmother alerted U.S. officials, who notified officials at the U.S. embassy in Bogota. But that was a month ago, according to the Dallas Morning News. “the Colombian government now has her in a locked detention facility and won’t release her, despite her family’s request.”
What should have been a simple case of mistaken identity has now turned into an international incident with Diplomatic implications for the Obama administration.
In a statement regarding Jakadrien’s case, ICE writes:
ICE takes these allegations very seriously. At the direction of [the Department of Homeland Security], ICE is fully and immediately investigating this matter in order to expeditiously determine the facts of this case.
Jakadrien’s grandmother remains hopeful that her granddaughter will be returned home soon. “I feel like she will come home. I just need help. And I need prayer.”

Whenever I am in the police department or see a missing persons board I will stand there and research them from my phone to find out if the case was ever solved or if they turn up on FB. The girl is a runaway. She was arrested for shoplifting and gave a fake name of an illegal immigrant. She was deported to Bogota where she was living as this Tika person and cleaning houses. Her grandmother found her there (probably with the help of her friends in the U.S.). So grandmother alerted the U.S. officials who notified Bogota. But the Bogota officials have her locked up in detention and refuse to send her back to the U.S. She probably doesn’t want to come back but she’s only 15. She’s definitely not an innocent little angel.

Yes her mother did! They probably took advantage of her and left her with the coyotes because that’s what got to her remains (I believe.) Her remains were found not even a mile away from the station, SMH.

i went waayyy down into her facebook posts and she does look much younger on the pics but very developed. she is ALWAYS talking about finding and needing a guy to be with and goes from being happy to sad and back to happy. sounds like she just took off and is trying to find herself. it seems like she has made lots of friends there. at one point, she says her grandma and grandpa are dead. sounds like her grandma needs to go over there and have a talk with her.
if the USA realizes this is a mistake, seems like they can issue a passport and she can just get on a damn plane. i don’t know what’s she’s in custody for. if she committed an illegal act in colombia, they’re not just going to let her go free whether cause she’s a US citizen.

Well, I think you know that I work as an immigration/DV attorney for legal aid in Austin and south Texas. We were actually brought in to consult on this, and I honestly can’t say everything I know, but what I can say is that almost everything in the linked news stories is bullshit. I’m not going to get into victim blaming, because ICE obviously did not do its due diligence here. But Jakadrien engineered almost everything that happened, and the grandmother’s declaration that she ran away because she was “distraught over the loss of her grandfather and her parents’ divorce” is a complete fabrication.
Here’s what I know, or at least what I’d be allowed to say.
1) She didn’t leave home because she was distraught over grandpa. She had a MUCH MUCH older boyfriend who was a drug dealer/gangbanger in Houston. After a fight with her family over the boyfriend, drugs, and how much school she’d been skipping, she left Dallas to be with the boyfriend. It wasn’t made clear to me whether he took her to Houston or she followed him there.
2) There was some sort of fight/split with the boyfriend in Houston. No one is really sure right now if he’s the father of the baby or if she got pregnant in Colombia. The boyfriend is in his late-20s/early-30s, previously arrested on suspicion of homicide in the mid-aughts but later released. A real piece of shit, which maybe also explains why he has no compunctions about fucking a 14-year-old.
3) The fake name she gave? That’s someone Jakadrien knows who worked as a drug mule/dealer in Houston. The real woman was an associate of the boyfriend. Jakadrien did not pick the name at random, but I don’t think Jakadrien knew that this woman had warrants either.
4) Jakadrien did everything possible to avoid giving away her real identity. She was not only afraid of telling her family about the baby and that she had continued to see the drug-dealing boyfriend, but she’d also pissed off associates of the boyfriend in Houston who had some serious gang associations. Like cartel sort of gang associations. After she was picked up, she lied every single step of the way. Had she said at any point that she was a US citizen, she could have brought this whole thing to a halt.
It’s still horrible that she’s pregnant and stuck in a Colombian prison, obviously. But this is the real story behind whatever the media ends up printing.

This is so sad. I saw it on our local news station yesterday also. It makes no sense that she was deported, but people come here everyday to be free from other countries. They don’t speak English and they don’t get deported. She was a runaway, meaning she ran away because she didn’t want to be there..and only a child would create a facebook, when they don’t want to be found. IJS

Sigh. Once again the Black community demonstrates their severe distaste and hatred for young girls of color. The fact that GROWN females (and males) on this site actually think this girl “got what she deserved” or is “fast” or “learned a good lesson” is the typical pitiful responses I expect from our people when it comes to young Black girls.
Not only do you show no decency, you also do “detective work” to determine whether or not her story is authentic. It is truly sad that no matter how traumatic an experience is for our girls, we always manage to not care and make it her fault.
