Of all the celebrities who attended Clive Davis’ Grandiose Pre-Grammy party at the Beverly Hills hotel last night, singer Alicia Keys was one of the few who had the common decency to bypass the red carpet while the body of the late Whitney Houston lay upstairs in her room at the same hotel. According to reports, Houston died Saturday of unknown causes at age 48.
A somber Keys arrived at the hotel’s rear entrance in a chauffeured limo with her husband, Swizz Beatz. Davis greeted Keys with a hug as she exited the limo. Inside the party, Keys posed for pictures with Sean “Diddy” Combs and his longtime girlfriend, Cassie. Surprisingly, Diddy also bypassed the red carpet.
I’m still trying to figure out what the hell is going on with this whole ordeal and I’m definitely tuning into the show tonight to see how fast they are going to be able to switch it up to honor Whitney a day after she passed. I said a prayer last night and this morning for Bobbi Kristina, she’s been on my mind. I pray that she has the strength to fight through this. This is sad.
Bypassing the red carpet doesn’t make her better or more respectful than the celebs in the next post. In reality, life does go on, time won’t stop. The Grammy’s nor the events affiliated with them will be cancelled because it is still BUSINESS.
If this were a BBQ thrown by a family member, then yes, cancel.

So I called Carol (Bobby Brown’s sister) and asked her if I could sell the exclusives for $10K because I really needed the money. But Carol told me Whitney said no because it was a private party. Plus, she was upset that her so-called “friends” kept selling pics to the tabloids behind her back. Carol also reminded me that Whitney specifically asked for me to shoot the party. In the end, I’m glad I didn’t sell the pics to the tabloids.

Whitney was found just before 4pm PST by a bodyguard in the bathtub of her suite at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. There was no obvious sign of foul play and criminal intent was not suspected, however police found bottles of prescription pills in her room. Since her body was out of the tub when EMT showed up, an autopsy will have to be conducted to find out if the official cause of death was an overdose or a drowning.
Whitney’s mother Cissy Houston said she spoke to her daughter 20-30 minutes before she died and, at that time, nothing sounded unusual about Whitney’s state of being. She talked about attending Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party that night. She also spoke to her cousin Dionne Warwick hours before making sure they were seated at the same table during the event.
Whitney’s body was still in the fourth floor hotel suite until around 11pm, which coincidentally was the site of Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy concert. The body was carried out on a gurney while the party was still going on in the hotel. (If you are wondering why it took so long to remove the body, the police had to request and obtain a search warrant to enter the room and investigate). Although the Pre-Grammy party was originally said to have been cancelled, it went on as planned with Clive Davis saying, “Whitney would have wanted the music to go on and her family asked that we carry on”
Whitney’s ex-husband Bobby Brown had to be consoled on stage by his bandmates during a New Edition performance in Mississippi tonight. “I will always love you Whitney! The hardest thing for me to do is to come on this stage,” he said. Later in the show, his voice started to crack as he became overwhelmed with emotions and he walked off stage abruptly.
Meanwhile Whitney’s daughter is in Los Angeles, and was reportedly denied access to her mothers body tonight. An eye witness recounts seeing her in the hotel lobby, minutes before police drove up and pulled body bags out of their trunks. She was said to have stormed in the lobby followed by a man and seemed extremely pissed off. According to reports, she had gotten into a shouting match with police outside of Whitney’s room when they wouldn’t let her inside of the room. (Again, this was because they had to obtain a search warrant to enter and investigate.)
Whitney was supposed to have performed tonight at Clive Davis’ party, and had been seen coaching Brandy and Monica on their joint performance. (Sidenote: It was Brandy’s birthday). Brandy and Monica showed up to the event but were said to be too distraught to perform. In the video below, Whitney can be seen coaching and talking to Monica during rehearsals for the Pre-Grammy party.

I live walking distance to the Beverly Hilton, possibly one of the ugliest hotels in the area. Yes they do the Golden Globes there and lots of old hollywood parties but its a dinosaur. Clive Davis party was just so ghoulish to be going on while she lay there last night. Last night fans were out singing and lighting candles and waiting for her to be moved. I felt such a crazy urge to go there and that is so not me, as it all becomes a circus and we have to think of the living and those left behind. I read that BHPD would not let Cissy or Bobbi Kristina in to see her and her body was still there at 11pm pst. 7 plus hours after she was announced dead. Made me wish for everyone to just let her be, let her go out with some quiet dignity. I wish no one would blast her business, no one call out her people, no one use this time to tell their self promoting tale but silly wish. Stop guessing TMZ, stop investigating every single detail…she’s gone, RIP Whitney, God hold her loved ones. And someone please come get Tony Bennett…really..not a time for your soapbox.

I didn’t think about how she died either. And not interested in all the sordid details. It just hurts that one of the two sisters whose voices inspired me so, is now gone. Still in shock & still can’t believe it.
I’m praying for her mother, her daughter, Bobby, and everyone else that was close to her and loved her for who she was despite what the world judged her for.

I would like to think that they carried on the Clive Davis party in celebration of Whitney Houston and to commiserate about her. That her body was still in the hotel while they partied does make me pause, however.
Now since this post is about Alicia Keys, I will say this. I had been so mad at Alicia for getting with Swizz while he was a married man, but this made me remember that the woman DOES do a lot of good and she does have a heart. Her messing around with Swizz was wrong, but maybe falling in love with a married man was beyond her control and just a manifestation of her “humanness”. No one is perfect…

I read that both Alicia and Swizz walked out with Clive when he gave his speech. I know Alicia is not talked about highly around these parts, but it takes two to tango if you know what I mean. It’s been several years since she and Swizz have gotten together and married. People can forgive Chris for woman battering, but Alicia still remains suspect for falling in love with a married man. Double standards, maybe?

FB and Twitter allows some people to be super bold and ignorant. I turned to CNN because people were saying Don Lemons was doing a respectful and sensitive coverage of Whitney’s death. Unfortunately Pierce Morgan was on and I grew tired of his need to start every conversation off with how troubled Whitney’s life had become. MC Lyte cut him off really quickly and let him know she was calling in to honor Whitney’s life, not discuss every wrong choice Whitney made. Glad to see someone stand up for what was right instead of feeding into the negativity people seem to want to bring.
