If you weren’t at least 12-years-old in 1992, then you won’t remember the insane hype leading up to the premiere of Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time” short movie.
The Internet was not easily accessible to everyone back then. But it was difficult to ignore the massive marketing machinery behind the short movie for Michael’s 2nd single off of his multi-platinum Dangerous album.
“Remember The Time”‘s music video was loosely based on Eddie Murphy’s hit comedy movie Coming To America (1988).
Leading up to the world premiere, MTV and BET teased us by airing clips of the behind the scenes magic that went into making this 9-minute spectacle directed by John Singleton. When “Remember The Time” finally premiered on MTV and BET simultaneously on Feb. 22, 1992, it was one of the longest music videos ever, clocking in at just over 9 minutes.
RTT starred some of the biggest names of that era: including comedian Eddie Murphy, supermodel Iman and NBA star Magic Johnson, who 1 year earlier announced he was infected with the HIV virus and retired from the NBA.
The music video dance sequences were choreographed by Fatima Robinson. Fatima also choreographed the opening credits sequence of Queen Latifah’s hit TV show “Living Single”, as well as scores of rap music videos in the 80s and 90s.
What struck me the most when I first viewed this video back in 1992 were how much lighter Michael had bleached his skin, the awkward kiss between him and Iman, and the Egyptian dance scenes, which I still love!

“I am grateful to my friends that have come to my aid, whether publicly or personally, never questioning my integrity or actions, understanding that I cannot discuss the details of the event on February 26th, and allowing law enforcement to proceed with their investigation unhindered,” the 28-year-old Zimmerman wrote elsewhere on the site. “Once again, I thank you for your patience and I assure you, the facts will come to light.”

I remember the beef with Big Les and Dr. Dre- didn’t he have to do a Domestic Violence PSA after spitting on her, never liked him sense. One of the dancers danced with Janet’s That’s the Way Love Goes Video, and I think she was one of the Fly Girls with Jennifer Lopez. Most recently she plays the aunt in the black indie film Mississippi. Hadn’t seen her face in years. It was a small world back in the 80’s everyone headed to LA after highschool to become a star- we went on Soul Train, tried out for a Different World- but best of all were the Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall parties Honeyyyy. Too bad Whitney never recovered from Hollywood.

Y’all in here talking about these choreographers got me thinking back in the day. The choreography used to be such a major component of a music video now people could care less. Videos used to augment a song and make it that much better.
but best of all were the Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall parties Honeyyyy. Too bad Whitney never recovered from Hollywood.

IMO HIV is a death sentence. People try and make it seem like you get the monster you straight. NO the Eff it ain’t!! You have to take a cocktail of meds that can either agree with your system or break it down even further. One that can make your limbs hurt, another that can taste like straight steel. Every day you living thinking in the back of your mind if its progressing into AIDS…You can’t live how you lived prior to that diagnosis. Ish is real scary and the fact that propoganda is making it seem like the common cold is beyond effed up.
Got kids and adults wilin the eff out with themselves and thinking yeah if I got it, ima be aight cuz of these drugs. Yeah okay. Smh

Yeah and this is before we were given info overload…. MJ did all this with out Twitter, Blogs, and all that. He didnt have to annouce his record release date everybody knew when it was. He was the difference between somebody putting in the work and someone expecting you buy thier album.

and that’s a problem I’ve had with Magic for years, he’s so healthy and they say he was cured and if so, why hasn’t he shared whatever cured him with the general public. Because many good people have died and will die behind this disease yet he’s walking around 20 years later in perfect health, accepting donations to his foundation for research. Something ain’t right about that and my heart can’t bring me to support a damn thing that he does when my daddy is in the ground behind the same disease because he didn’t have the same access/funds to buy a cure

Magic takes care of himself -thats why its undetectable. Know Your Status! Get tested regularly if you’re sexuallyactive with a few people. But at least get tested every year. Every city has free testing sites if you’re unable to pay

@Ms.Fashion, no real tea- I never stayed for the after party, it was the 80’s, we went for the free drugs and to sight see but I do know that they were swingers- black girls didn’t participate much back then only white girls and hispanic girls were allowed in the basement. Me, I was chasing Sheila E., around the pool-she was a beast!

He still has HIV/AIDS, but medication is suppressing his HIV. I agree with whoever said Magic should share the medications he’s taking. I’m sure average Americans don’t have access to that same treatment.

Thanks @Yall :hugs: I agree that everyone should know their status and make sure they get tested regularly regardless of whether they are monogamous or not (because it can lay dormant and just because you are monogamous doesn’t mean they are monogamous).
