Emma Watson hates being referred to as a “single” lady, so she has coined a new term to describe people like herself who are happy being single. She prefers to call herself “self-partnered”.
The 29-year-old Harry Potter actress has dated fellow actors including Chord Overstreet and a brief fling with Harry Potter co-star Tom Felton.
However, according to WENN.com, in a new interview with Britain’s Vogue magazine, Emma revealed she’s not currently seeing anyone, and is “very happy” with her single status right now.
“I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel,” she told the magazine. “I was like, ‘This is totally spiel.’ It took me a long time, but I’m very happy (being single). I call it being self-partnered.”
Despite her assurance that she’s happy being single, Emma added that her single status does give her anxiety in certain aspects of her life. She feels pressure to get married and have a baby by the time she turns 30 on April 15, 2020.
“Cut to 29, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I feel so stressed and anxious,” said Watson. “And I realize it’s because there is suddenly this bloody influx of subliminal messaging around. If you have not built a home, if you do not have a husband, if you do not have a baby, and you are turning 30, and you’re not in some incredibly secure, stable place in your career, or you’re still figuring things out… There’s just this incredible amount of anxiety.”
In America, more people are choosing to remain single. Over 36 million Americans are single and that number is growing daily. Corporations are taking notice and catering to single people.
“Things like marriage, having children — where previously a lot of weight was put upon that — they’re putting those things off a little more so they’re staying single longer,” said Melissa Meredith, a marketing specialist for Creative Collabs.
