Brandy dropped a new single to honor single mothers, entitled “Baby Mama” featuring Chance The Rapper. Brandy said the inspiration for the song is her 17-year-old daughter, Sy’rai Iman Smith.
“The inspiration for Baby Mama was of course my daughter and how she makes me a better person. I wanted to do a song about her and speak to all baby mama’s out there that may feel like they can’t make it or they can’t push through, you know, if you use your child as an inspiration you can do anything and I want to everybody to feel that. I have to give Chance The Rapper a huge shout out, he spit a really really dope verse on it and I’m so pleased with it. – Love, Brandy.”
The music video was directed by celebrity photographer Derek Blanks with creative direction by Frank Gatson. Gatson is the friend who called 911 the night of Jussie Smollett‘s unfortunate career-ending incident in Chicago last year.
Brandy is asking for donations to Homes for the Holidays, part of Warrick Dunn Charities to benefit single parent families in need.
Homes for the Holidays partners with affordable housing providers to reduce the financial burden on single parent homeowners by fully furnishing their new house, providing down payment assistance, and stocking the pantry with food and other household necessities. Since 1997, “Homes for the Holidays” has rewarded 177 single parents and 477 children and dependents.
