A California shopper’s odd choice for a face mask has sparked a police investigation. The man complied with the state’s mandatory face covering order by wearing a white cone shaped cloth over his head that looked similar to a KKK hood.
The man was spotted shopping at Vons supermarket in Santee, California on Saturday, May 2.
Local resident Tiam Tellez shared the photos of the man on Facebook. He said shoppers complained to management who asked the man to remove the hood or leave the store. He complied by removing the hood.
Tellez posted several photos of the unidentified man, along with the caption:
“So I want to say Thank you to the management team. Several employees came over together and told the man to either remove the hood or he would have to leave, so he removed the hood.
“So troublesome in so many ways this is still happening in Santee at Vons. Disgusting!”
Santee Mayor John Minto told the New York Daily News that the local sheriff launchd an investigation to identify the man. He said he would hold the man responsible for his racist display.
Minto said the San Diego County Sheriff Dept. is looking into the incident.
“It’s a sad reminder of intolerance. The people who live in our city deserve better.”
