A New Jersey woman is facing murder and weapons charges in the death of her 32-year-old spouse of 2 years. Police say Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus, 48, is currently not in custody and is a fugitive.
A manhunt is underway for Mayra who fled after beating Rebecca Gavilanez-Alectus to death in Brick Township, NJ on May 17.
Mayra reportedly used a cylindrical wine chiller to bludgeon Rebecca to death during an argument, DailyMail.com reported.
Police responded to an apartment on Creek Road to investigate a report of an unresponsive woman. Officers arrived to find Rebecca’s battered body in an upstairs bedroom.
The domestic violence attack came a week after Mayra posted a gushing message in broken English and Spanish, expressing her love for Rebecca.
“Mi amor gracias for all the unaccountable ways you make this little crazy family… and my entire life better with every moment. (“You know what’s up”) I truly blessed that you are my wife. Te amp PRECIOSA… Hoy mañana y siempre. Happy Mother’s Day Mi Amor!!”
Authorities have not disclosed what sparked the domestic violence.
Police say domestic violence incidents have increased sharply during the coronavirus pandemic in the United States.
