Macy’s issued a statement defending a white employee who was viciously attacked by a Black man who accused the employee of using the N-word. Macy’s says the attack was unprovoked.
The incident happened at a Macy’s store in Genesee Valley Center in Flint Township, Michigan.
The video was posted on Facebook Monday, June 15, by aspiring rapper FT Quay, who has since deleted his social media.
In the video, a white man wearing a black face mask is seen being pummeled on the floor by a Black man wearing a black wife beater and sagging pants.
The employee asked, “What are you doing that for?” as the attacker punched him repeatedly. The employee extended his arm to deflect the blows as the assailant tells him not to touch him.
“I didn’t touch you… I’m sorry. I’m sorry” the man said.
In a post on Facebook, FT Quay wrote:
“This is not the whole video but Me and bro in the mall n shit and he ask this man [on the phone] did this shirt look [too] little he told him yea and kept talking on the phone then mumbled talking bout sum “no one just sum ni**er” he thought we ain’t hear em because his mask was on #blackpower.[sic]”
The video does not show the employee using the N-word.
Macy’s has said it will beef up security at the store.
Flint Township Lt. Brad Wangler confirmed the incident is under investigation. Macy’s says it will help law enforcement to identify the attacker through the use of face-recognition technology.
