Update 3, 10:29 am ET: The chief justice ruled that ObamaCare is unconstitutional under the commerce clause, but the court justified the law under the tax clause. This means ObamaCare is justified as a tax. So Uncle Sam will get more of our money.
We will all be forced to purchase health insurance just as we are required to buy car insurance. Those who choose not to purchase health insurance under the law will be taxed $695 or 2.5% of your income, whichever is greater.
The IRS will have to hire a lot more people to enforce the law.
If you lose your job, you will still be required to buy health insurance just as you are required to pay your car insurance.
The United States is now a socialist country.

We are just moments away from the Supreme court’s historic decision on Obamacare’s individual mandate. If the justices strike down the mandate as unconstitutional (as legal analysts say they will) Americans won’t be forced to purchase expensive insurance that many can’t afford.
If the justices uphold the controversial mandate the only winners will be insurance companies which stand to make a lucrative windfall from millions of new customers.
The U.S. will be one step closer to a socialist country If the mandate is upheld by the Supreme Court.
Americans who refuse to buy insurance will be forced to pay $695 in penalties or the government will take a percentage of their incomes.
The mandate is a key provision in the so-called “affordable” universal healthcare act enacted by President Barack Obama in 2010.
In 2007, while running for president, Obama slammed the individual mandate when it was proposed by then-candidate Hillary Clinton. He flip-flopped on the issue just 3 years later.
The justices are expected to announce their decision around 10 a.m. President Obama plans to speak on the decision sometime today.

Uninsured people like myself will be very happy to have healthcare. Nothin worse than not being able to afford to get yourself well. I know there are others like me that work everyday and don’t have medical insurance. There aren’t too many options if you make enough to survive. You have to be unemployed to get help w/ free healthcare. I’ve lost some hearing in one ear because of recurrent ear infections…no money to go to the doctor to be treated. Just put ur self in the shoes of all the others that don’t have access to healthcare.

Sandra, private hospitals turn people away every day for failure to be able to pay. Public hospitals that have government funding are not legally able to do so but the quality of care, length of stay, medications used etc are all downgraded if you don’t have insurance and your bill will be through the roof. If you’ve never experienced that consider yourself blessed but don’t look down upon those who do or make flimsy excuses for what you don’t understand simply because you’ve been blessed to avoid what millions in this country go through in regards to healthcare

This is how I see it. The concern is you can’t FORCE people to get healthcare. That is the gripe.
If you can’t afford healthcare now, then this Act will make it mandatory you have it and at a cost. Which in turn still leaves you on the losing end. If you couldn’t afford it before the Act, you definitely won’t be able to if it is passed.
It effects employers because, some employers who pay a portion of the their employee’s benefits feel they can just pay the penalties for not supplying healthcare and let the employee’s purchase a government plan instead.
It effects Health Plans, i.e. Blue Cross, Aetna, because the government healthcare is competition. Most heealth plans will lose a lot of business if this Act passes. Especially those health plans that their core business is from small business groups.

Okay, now I feel that people who CAN afford healthcare and choose not to take it deserve to be forced because they clearly don’t have common sense or proper understanding of what can and will happen should they become seriously ill and once a person becomes that ill they no longer are eligible for health care (the pre existing clauses)
If you can’t afford insurance now (which I understand cause I’ve been there) you will end up getting hit with a penalty and all that jazz. Something needs to be done about this right here. There needs to be a subsidy, something in place to assist those that will fall by the wayside because of this. I went to a nice lil shi shi foo foo event last night in DC, it was a rooftop partay with open bar 
and man that joint was NICE!! They had a pool n shyt, the food was delish 
and they had cabana’s to sit in and the like. Real real nice negro pool party. The crowd was decent (no hoodrats, they had a strict guestlist)but bishes were over dressed (I mean on a WEDS why you look like you going to the club when its technically an afterwork event? :blink:) but I felt like I was in Miami for a second.
I am depressed that I am at work today.

My sister needed a kidney transplant and remained on dialysis for several years until she received her kidney in 2004. Needless to say, she has worked and paid taxes since she was 15 years old (now she’s 43) and was denied medical insurance because of her preexisting condition. How fair is that? Bonqueesha and all of her little pick a ninnies can get free medical care and never have to come up off of one dime, but someone who goes to work everyday are paying astronomical fees to see doctors and specialist. We as a people afford what we want to afford. Just like car insurance, everyone should have medical insurance.

I’m young and not qualified for insurance due to the pre existing condition clauses and when I went back to work it took months on months for me to be eligible for healthcare (Plans offered through jobs generally don’t have those clauses) meaning my medical bills are through the roof and have been for years
People who have never walked in the shoes of someone who falls between government eligible and s.o.l or have watched someone close to them do the same don’t understand.
And it’s not always a matter of taking care of yourself or learning to treat yourself. That’s how alot of black folks end up dead before 60, thinking that the cure to everything is growing in their backyard. You can be the healthiest person under the sun, eat right, exercise, don’t smoke, don’t drink, avoid caffeine , do everything the dr’s tell you to do in order to stay healthy and be hit with a disease that’s been laying dormant for years that is genetic. Or be hit by a car. Or fall at the park. Or anything and suddenly find out that your home remedies don’t mean chit and your years of taking care of self without planning for what if (insurance) have left you screwed and on your way to bankruptcy court
It is easy temptation to keep eating overprocessed, un-natural stuff because of the chemical inbalances it causes in the body but if you take it one step at a time and eliminate and introduce more foods naturally grown or not over processed then you will see the health benefits. Also people need to start rebuilding their bodies with vitamins and I am talking organic no animal encased vitamins… so much stuff is polluted with pork which does have a negative effect on the body. Educate yourself on what you eat, especially those names that you can’t pronounce. Look into it and make wiser decisions.

This is what I feel is a benefit. If you are working your employer should offer it. People who don’t work and getting all this free handouts should pay something. It not fair to the working class!!! Even for pre existing, a person should be able to get some type of benefit not nothing at all!!! But a pre existing patient in the eyes of a healthplan is a big financial risk because of the cost associated with treatment. I think they would have a sky high premium if they do get insurance because the insurance company would put out a large amount of money for their treatments. Its like you going into a deal knowing you about to lose half your profit? How many of yall would do it?

A cowoker in her 50’s is against Obama care, due to higher rates that it has and will continue to occur. She is currently looking for a job, that she very well may get. I posed this question, what if she gets the job and is employed there less than 90 days and looses the job,, due to last one hired, first fired.
But while she was not working she caught up on all her doctors appointments and finds a lump in her breast. Now she has pre-existing condition. If Obama care is in place it will protect her…..

Car insurance is mandatory whether you have a car accident or not, but everyone will go to the doctor or at least they should a couple of times per year. It’s sad, but it’s true; people’s diets and the vast consumption of food is the contributing factor to their health issues. So many GMO foods, cloned meats, processed foods and foods with the same chemicals that we use in household products and cars are being sold and consumed by those who do not know any better.

Fay eat more fruits/vegetables/beans and cut back on your meats to only lean organic cuts maybe once a week or so. That way you’re getting the best of both worlds

Well I eat Red meat but its the type that you eat that may affecct your body I say…I consume goat and cow meat and so far…i’m healthy as all hell
However, I take my vitamins, walk alot, and drink a lot of hot fluids. I don’t consume a lot of pork though
We never cooked it in my house its a hard animal to cook.
Red meat is not bad for you it is just the quantity that people eat is bad.
Meats should be limited to 1-2 times per week. Introduce more fresh fruits and veggies. Make sure you have a variety of color.
I was a vegan for 24 years…. So being a vegetarian is cheesecake

True to some effect… When I was pregnant with my twins the doctor basically forced me to start eating at least chicken and fish to help support my body in carrying those 2. It was hard for me but I am 4 yrs just about going on eating chicken/turkey.
Curry chicken… I don’t know how we ever were apart. Now I have introduced small amount of red meat and goat meat. Its cool not bad but I don’t fancy it much.

People in this country need to realize that and accept it as fact. You can’t expect the government to put out with putting back in, that’s why we’re in the financial mess that we’re in

Repubs and Conservatives keep throwing out socialism like it’s the ultimate evil. All socialism just like all communism is not bad. Stop listening to the propagandists and do research and you’ll see that they are more giving and beneficial to all than our beloved capitalism. Unfortunately they are easily manipulated into personal gains and these systems of government are sought out by dictators who abuse them and the people under their rule. Just saying

What this really means is now that government is mandating everyone must have health coverage- be it from an employer, you individually buy, or from them- is that employers will begin to no longer offer healthcare to their employees, as a cost cutting measure. So people will be forced to look for private coverage- which if you think going down to BCBS to purchase individual family coverage is expensive NOW, just wait. The prices for that will skyrocket past anything you can imagine or afford bc these companies will be forced to substantially raise rates in order to stay afloat due to lost premiums… Which in effect is a roundabout way of the government legally forcing a majority of us to obtain coverage through them. The problem with that is it’s against the law (Commerce Clause) but by calling it a ‘tax’ are able to just skirt around it. They’ll be taxing people in order to get them to conform to their wishes. Whether you’re for Obama or against him, love him or hate him- That SHOULD be very scary to you.
