Lil Nas X reacted to the backlash over his pregnancy photo shoot to celebrate the impending delivery of his new album, Montero.
The “Old Town Road” rapper strapped on a prosthetic belly to symbolize the birth of his “baby” on Sept. 17.
He claimed he came up with the concept while listening to Megan Thee Stallion‘s verse on his new song “Dolla Sign Slime.”
However, YouTube beauty influencer James Charles previously pulled a similar stunt, wearing a prosthetic belly in a photo shoot.
James, 22, faced backlash from women who say the YouTuber trivialized the pregnancy experience because men can’t get pregnant.
Now LNX is facing backlash from outraged and confused social media users.
Comedian Donnell Rawlings commented in a since-deleted post:
“I’m with freedom of whatever, but at this point Lil Nas is f—ing with the minds of kids. What are your thoughts, how do I explain this shit to my son?”
One user responded:
“boys have been putting basketballs under their shirt to look pregnant since 1891. Your son will be alright.”
LNX responded to one critic, saying:
“One day y’all will learn I am not a representation of anyone but Lil Nas X.”
