Angelia Woods, a Black mom of four, works as an accountant for the state of Florida. “I am what you would consider homeless,” she tells WFTS News.
When asked how an accountant can be homeless, Woods explains, “You have to pay to live, and therefore, you can’t afford to move.”
Woods pays nearly $2,000 a month for her family of 5 to live in a hotel room in Tampa, Florida.
Woods says her paycheck from the Florida Dept. of Transportation is not enough to cover rent and expenses.
She is just one of thousands of middle-class workers who are homeless due to the lack of adorable housing in Florida.
Woods says she earns too much money to qualify for state benefits.
“I never thought I would be in a situation like this.”
Woods said she doesn’t have the money for first and last month’s rent that most apartment complexes in Florida requires.
