Chadwick Boseman died of colon cancer on August 28, 2020 at age 43, leaving a net worth of $12 million. But with no will to allocate the funds, the sharks began circling in the water.
2 years later, lawyers and tax collectors cleaned out Boseman’s estate, leaving Boseman’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, and his mother just $800,000 to split between them.
Boseman’s family requested an audit of his estate. Radar Online obtained the final accounting report, filed by Ledward, showing his estate earned just $230,000 in movie residuals since his death.
Ledward was in charge of handling Boseman’s financial affairs after his death. She reportedly paid over $8 million on “bills,” reducing his estate’s net worth to $2.3 million.
Lawyers and tax collectors helped themselves to $1.5 million, leaving just $800,000 cash for Ledward to split with Boseman’s family.
Boseman didn’t leave behind a will before he died. He married Ledward months before his death.
In the final accounting documents, Ledward asked to be reimbursed for funeral costs including $9,500 for the venue, $10,000 for the funeral service, and $1,275 for flowers.
Boseman kept his cancer diagnosis a secret from his fans for four years. He rose to superstardom for his role as the superhero Black Panther.
His stellar acting earned him praise, awards and accolades.
His final film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom – released after his death – earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.
