Heartbroken friends and colleagues are mourning the sudden death of CBS New York Meteorologist Elise Finch. She was just 51 years old.
Finch delivered her last weather forecast on Friday. Her untimely death at a local hospital was announced during CBS New York’s newscasts on Sunday.
Finch was a beloved WCBS 2 employee for 16 years, according to a statement from CBS News. She first started out as a weekend meteorologist in 2007.
“It is with profound sadness that we share news of the passing of our beloved Elise Dione Finch Henriques. Elise was a gifted and consummate professional who took great care with her work. She was also a wonderful ambassador in the community, including her hometown of Mount Vernon. Above all, Elise was a fiercely loving and devoted mother to her daughter Grace and wife to Graig Henriques, who is a photojournalist at WCBS.”
Finch struggled with morbid obesity over the years. Her 3-week absence from work in the fall of 2020 raised concerns among viewers.
She tweeted to a follower: “My daughter had heart surgery so I was out with her for three weeks. Thanks for missing me.”
My heart is broken. Our team will never be the same. No one matched musical wits better. I’ll miss you much. ?@CBSNewYork? pic.twitter.com/Lp2zP60GZu
