Sam Ashghari has a good reason to renegotiate an iron-clad prenuptial agreement that he signed before tying the knot with Britney Spears in 2022.
The document provides only $1 million for every two years that they were married. But they were only married for 14 months.
Asghari, 29, filed for divorce from Spears, 41, on Wednesday, amid allegations that she cheated on him.
Asghari wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday:
“After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. S–t happens.”
The aspiring actor reportedly threatened to release “extraordinarily embarrassing” tea about Spears if the prenup isn’t renegotiated.
However, a loophole in the agreement stated he gets nothing if leaks any information about Brit to the tabloids.
A source tells Page Six that the “Family Business” actor is “attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid.”
But sources tell TMZ that the prenup features an “extensive confidentiality clause” that prohibits Asghari from discussing his relationship with Britney to anyone.
On Thursday, Asghari denied he is trying to renegotiate the prenup.
His rep Brandon Cohen told The Hollywood Reporter:
“There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos. However, all these claims are false, and no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her.”
Multiple sources confirmed the couple split months after rumors swirled that they had separated.
Both were seen without their wedding bands in recent paparazzi photos.
But Asghari previously denied the rumors that he and Spears went their separate ways.
Spears and Asghari met in 2016 on the set of her “Slumber Party” music video. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married in June 2022.
Asghari helped the pop star get mental health treatment following a mental episode in 2019.
She checked into a mental facility for “all-encompassing wellness treatment” in April 2019, and Asghari also helped her deal with her conservatorship drama with her father.
A Spears family source told PEOPLE, “There is no question that Sam is great for Britney. He has a very positive influence on her. He is very motivated to stay healthy and fit, and they often work out together.”
Spears and Asghari’s marriage produced no children. She has 2 sons, Jayden and Sean, with ex-husband Kevin Federline. They divorced in 2007.
