Sherri Shepherd’s daytime talk show is on temporary pause after she tested positive for Covid-19.
Sherri, 56, tested positive for COVID days after her talk show returned for season 2 on Monday, Sept. 18.
“Unfortunately Sherri has tested positive for Covid,” the show posted on Instagram on Wednesday. “The show will return with new episodes as soon as possible. For the remainder of this week, encore episodes from the beginning of the premiere week will air. The health of our host and entire staff is of the utmost importance.”
Sherri added to the post by saying: “I am absolutely heartbroken that I cannot return to host my show this week. As soon as I get the all-clear from my doctor, I look forward to coming back strong to deliver the fun, laughter and a real good time.”
In a video ad sponsored by Pfizer on her Instagram page, the fully vaccinated TV host urged her 1.2 million followers to get vaccinated against pneumococcal pneumonia. “Get your shot!” she said in the video alongside former NFL quarterback Joe Montana.
Sherri was heavily criticized for crossing the picket line when other talk shows paused their season premieres.
She said there’s been “so much confusion about who can work and who can’t work”.
“But here’s the thing: talk shows in general fall under a different union contract code, so we are allowed to come back unless you are a WGA show. Now, The Sherri Shepherd Show is not a WGA show,” Shepherd explained.
“We have never employed WGA writers. So us coming back to work is not crossing the picket line. And as a comic, my comedic take on the headlines is my voice. I write my jokes. I’m the writer. And I’m not in the WGA. I have the producers, who help me shape my words, which is why we don’t have WGA writers over here at Sherri.”
However, Drew Barrymore put her show’s return on pause after heavy criticism from fans and writers alike.
“I have listened to everyone, and I am making the decision to pause the show’s premiere until the strike is over,” Barrymore wrote on Instagram.
Jennifer Hudson also reportedly delayed her talk show’s return amid the backlash.
Sherri couldn’t wait to show off her new boobs during her season 2 premiere. Sherri underwent breast reduction surgery on July 13.
“It started becoming really painful,” she told her studio audience.
“I get so many comments about my body and a lot of y’all kept saying, ‘Sherri, you’re too top heavy.’ And I would get comments like, ‘If you just got a boob job everything would be balanced.’ So guess what? I got my boobs done!” she said while dancing and gyrating.
