Beyonce’s former bodyguard, James Griffin Jr, died Friday, Oct. 6, from injuries he sustained in a multi-car crash in Massachusetts.
Griffin Jr., 61, of Providence, Rhode Island, was severely injured in a crash involving three vehicles on Interstate 95 on Aug. 28, according to WJAR.
Griffin was a Rhode Island State Police officer for 17 years. A job-related back injury forced him to retire in 1996 and he joined a security firm that provides executive protection for celebrities, lawmakers, and other VIPs.
He provided personal security for the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia for seven years, before forming his own private security company, according to MassLive. Griffin then provided personal protection for high-profile celebrities, including Jay-Z, Beyonce and Drake.
“His death is a tremendous loss for all of those who loved him, and he will be dearly missed in the days and years to come,” his online obituary read.
