Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is accused of having an “improper” relationship with a top prosecutor in the Fulton County election interference case against former President Donald Trump.
According to a bombshell court filing by Trump co-defendant Michael Roman, special prosecutor Nathan Wade paid for lavish vacations with Willis using Fulton County funds paid to his law firm by the DA’s office.
According to Roman, “sources close to both the special prosecutor and the district attorney have confirmed they had an ongoing, personal relationship.”
Roman was a staffer for Trump from 2017 to 2018. He worked on the Trump 2020 reelection campaign as director of election day operations, according to AJC.com.
Willis is accused of paying Wade over $650,000 in Fulton County funds for his work as special prosecutor.
Wade allegedly paid for lavish vacations for Willis and himself to the Bahamas.
He allegedly booked tickets on the Norwegian and Royal Caribbean cruise lines for himself and Willis.
Roman’s court filing claims Willis and Wade lived in some capacity in a home that neither of them owned.
The alleged affair began before Willis hired Wade as Trump special prosecutor and before his divorce from his now ex-wife.
According to AJC.com, Wade entered into his special prosecutor contract on Nov. 1, 2021, just one day before he filed for divorce in Cobb County.
The alleged affair has not been confirmed, but if true, Willis could face RICO charges herself.
“If the allegations are true, Willis was conflicted in the investigation and prosecution of this case” and wasn’t able to bring the sort of “independent professional judgment” her position requires, Stephen Gillers, a professor emeritus at New York University Law School, told AJC.com.
According to Willis’ spokeswoman, Pallavi Bailey, the DA’s office will respond to Roman’s allegations “through appropriate court filings.”
Willis’s office did not deny the salacious allegations.
