The music industry embraced rapper André 3000’s flute album, titled New Blue Sun (2023). And while most rap fans pretended to love the album, others weren’t feeling it.
Rapper turned actor LL Cool J says André should retire his flute and reunite with Outkast member Big Boi.
In a recent episode of LeBron James’ “The Shop” podcast, the rap legend said he was disappointed that André’s flute album was all instrumental.
“André’s one of the greatest rappers ever. I think he’s amazing, alright? His bars is all the way up,” LL said. “Not the flute… Let’s not lie to ourselves… You wanna hear me do a violin? I want him to get with Big Boi, I want them to make an OutKast [album] — or do a solo album. He’s so gifted.”
Guest Lena Waithe defended André and said she liked the flute album. “Latifah did a jazz album,” she said, referring to retired rapper Queen Latifah.
LL responded: “You liked the album? What’s your favorite song?”
André 3000 hasn’t ruled out making another OutKast album. But he says he has been struggling to write bars in the last few years.
