Fashion connoisseurs are outraged over Vogue magazine’s Met Gala 2025 announcement on Wednesday. X.com users are calling the 2025 Met Gala the “Woke Met Gala.”

The controversy began when Vogue announced the 2025 Met Gala co-chairs, including Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Pharrell Williams, Anna Wintour, and LeBron James.

Yes, that LeBron James.

Fashion fans say LeBron has never attended a Met Gala event and he doesn’t know the first thing about fashion. So why is he a Met Gala co-chair?

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City also announced the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition — Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which is inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

According to Vogue, the exhibit is going to include garments, paintings and photographs that explore “the indelible style of Black men in the context of dandyism, from the 18th-century through present day.”

Even Black people are worried that the theme will be misappropriated by other cultures.

“Am I the only one nervous about this?” an X user asked, as another wrote, “A good theme but let’s hope no one will appropriate cultures.”

Another person wrote: “This use to be the who’s who event … in the last decade or so it has sunk very low and it’s just a bunch of look at me’s in outfits that don’t even go with the theme or style direction.”

A third person wrote: “Why are other ethnicities being ignored? This smacks of gross unfairness and pandering to woke.”

Others were upset over the timing of the announcement — with Hurricane Milton barreling down on Florida within hours.

“I question how appropriate it was to make this announcement when Hurricane Milton is raging in Florida where the potential for loss of life is so great. Surely the organizers could have waited a few more days to announce this major event for ‘celebrities’ who long for the prestige of receiving an invitation.”

Another person wrote: “The met gala stopped being relevant when wintour started inviting influencers. Now it’s just a joke. In regard to this year’s theme, can anyone say ‘pandering?'”

A third person added: “Put a fork in the Met Gala. It’s done.”
