Social media users speculated on the meaning behind the coat dress worn by incoming First Lady Melania Trump at President Jimmy Carter’s State funeral on Thursday.

Melania wore a black Valentino coat dress with a white button-down blouse underneath from the fall 2019 collection. She completed her look with classic black Manolo Blahnik pumps.

Mrs. Trump’s funeral attire with a dramatic printed white collar drew speculation from social media users.

They noted right collar featured a B&W print that shows 2 people kissing among roses and a butterfly. The black-and-white print is based on a 19th-century neoclassical sculpture of kissing lovers, according to Vogue magazine.

One X (Twitter) user wrote, “Melania’s Coat Dress that she wore today is by designer, Valentino. Valentino used a print of the sculpture ‘The Kiss’ in this collection that she’s wearing. The sculpture was originally conceived by a larger sculpture titled, ‘The Gates of Hell.’ How fitting to wear in a room full of traitors.”

Another Melania’s supporter noted that she chooses her outfits with “thoughtful intention.”

“Everything she does is with thoughtful intention,” the fan wrote, before adding, “Style is back.”

While Trump supporters praised Melania’s designer look, some on social media were left confused by her funeral attire.

All five living presidents attended Jimmy Carter’s funeral in Washington, DC on Thursday.

Former President Barack Obama arrived alone and took a seat next to Trump. The two men laughed throughout the service.

Their laughter drew disapproving glares from Vice President Kamala Harris.
