“The Office” star Craig Robinson announced he’s quitting the entertainment business to work in the private sector.

Robinson’s surprise announcement stunned his colleagues and fans. He said he was quitting after three decades to focus on his “true calling.”

“Hey everybody, just wanted you to hear it from me: I am quitting comedy,” Robinson said in an Instagram post on Sunday. “But not for nothing. It’s been an amazing run. Y’all been amazing and wonderful, but I’m following something bigger. So, you know, thank you so much, I love you and stay tuned.”

Robinson, 53, said he planned to go into business with 2 friends. He also said he has 5 more improv comedy shows scheduled for Oct. 3-5 in San Jose, California.

Robinson began taking classes in improv and acting at The Second City in Chicago while still in college. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Illinois State University and a Masters in Education at Saint Xavier University.

The talented keyboardist taught music at several public schools in Indiana.

After entering open-mic comedy competitions in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and winning regional comedy competitions, he landed spots on late night TV shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live.

In 2004, he appeared in episodes of Friends, The Bernie Mac Show, LAX and Arrested Development. Those appearances led to film roles in Knocked Up, Pineapple Express and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

Robinson also appeared on TV shows including “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Lucky,” “Halfway Home“, and “Reno 911!”.

In 2021, Robinson became a spokesperson in commercials for Pizza Hut and Gain detergent.

On June 9, he performed during the 2025 BET Awards in Los Angeles.
