TikTok users are in a frenzy over a new requirement that users submit photo identification to confirm their age on the platform. The new age verification measure launched this month (August 2025).

Some platforms are demanding government IDs just to log in to use their service.

TikTok users call the new tech the “mark of the beast.” Others say the Internet is dead (Dead Internet Theory). And kids on TikTok are urging users to buy MP3 players rather than submit government identification to listen to music on Spotify.

Social media users were caught off guard by how quickly this new measure was implemented.

Some users argue that ISPs (AT&T, Comcast, etc.) already know who we are. But big tech companies also want to know who’s using their service.

Internet users say they are not willing to share their identification with big tech companies.

The list of big tech companies that require government IDs include Spotify, YouTube, Xbox, and Discord.

FYI: Sandrarose.com will never ask users to submit government IDs to comment on the blog.
