Sen. Markwayne Mullin repeatedly referred to female Washington, D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser as a man during a Fox News interview on Wednesday.
Bowser came under scrutiny this week when she said Washington, D.C.’s crime rate is way down.
Bowser, 53, made the statement after President Trump federalized the Metropolitan Police Department to begin cracking down on crime.

Mullin referred to Bowser as a “very racist mayor” during his appearance on Fox News.
“But for him to say that and flat out lie to the American people, he knows exactly what’s happening. Crime is not down. The lack of prosecution is down. They don’t allow the prosecuting attorneys to actually prosecute. They have taken all the felonies and they drop them down to dang-near misdemeanors, and they don’t even write the tickets on them. Violations don’t even exist in Washington, D.C.”
Mullin did not attempt to correct his mistake – even though he is very familiar with Bowser.

Although Bowser is an ally of the LGBTQ+ community, she identifies as a straight woman.
In 2018, she adopted a biracial baby girl and named her Miranda Elizabeth Bowser.
Bowser is the first single mother to serve as mayor in Washington, D.C. history. She was elected mayor of D.C. in 2015.

If you're going to smear the mayor of DC with falsehoods, at least give the audience the impression that you know who SHE is.
Multiple times Mullin refers to the mayor as "he." https://t.co/F2mRoz8lBX
