Tennis doubles finalist Taylor Townsend made headlines last month when she clashed with Latvian tennis star Jelena Ostapenko at the US Open.

Taylor defeated Jelena 7-5 6-1 to advance to the third round. But a tense exchange occurred between the two players at the net after the match.

Jelena repeatedly wagged her finger at Taylor and said she had “no class” and “no education.”

The backlash was fierce, and Jelena was accused of being racist.

Now the tables have turned, and Taylor is under fire for alleged racist remarks.

It all unfolded at the Team USA hotel at the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Finals tennis tournament in China.

The tournament began on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Taylor and fellow American tennis player Hailey Baptiste (pictured) objected to the free food laid out for them by the Chinese tennis officials.

In a video uploaded to Instagram, Taylor complained about the food. She pointed out one unidentifiable food item.

“Yo, what the hell?… This is crazy. This angle is f–ing nuts,” she said.

Taylor laughed out loud when Hailey said, “I’m starting with that.”

“Oh, I didn’t know you swung that way,” Taylor said of Hailey, who is masculine-identified.

Taylor continued, “This is crazy! I ain’t never seen one of these up close.”

Taylor quickly apologized after the intense backlash on social media.

“Hey everybody, I just wanted to come on here and apologize sincerely from the bottom of my heart,” she said in a follow-up video. “I understand that I am so privileged as a professional athlete to be able to travel all around the world and experience cultural differences. Which is one of the things that I love so much about what I do.”

She continued: “Everyone has been so kind and so gracious. The things that I said were not representative of that at all. And I just truly wanted to apologize.”
