A TikTok influencer who goes by the username @dayara83 explained the lack of urgency to find Celeste Rivas when she ran away from home at age 13 in April 2024.
Celeste’s body was found in the trunk of a Tesla registered to singer D4vd in Hollywood, CA. on Sept. 8, 2025.
Americans wondered why there wasn’t more urgency on the part of police or her family to find Celeste in over a year.
In a viral video on TikTok, Dayara says Celeste’s case speaks to a broader issue in Latin American culture that promotes the xesual abuse of girls as young as 12.
Dayara said little girls in Latin American households are not considered children once they turn 12 or 13.
“There is a culture of abuse of little girls in Latin America,” she said. Dayara added that she believes Celeste’s mother accepted payment when her daughter ran off with singer D4vd in April 2024.
“I’m here to tell you that the parents knew exactly where she was.”

Dayara said Celeste’s case reminded her of her own story and things that she experienced as a little girl.
“Because it speaks of a broader and bigger picture and that picture is that… Latino households, they don’t see daughters as children once we are, like, 12 years old.”
She said “that comes from a model of colonization” of Latina women and children.
“It doesn’t matter where it comes from,” she continued, “It is really affecting our communities. Like, the questions are asked, did the parents know where she was? I’m here to tell you that the parents knew exactly where she was.”
She added: “This happens all the time in Latino families. They knew exactly where she was. And especially the mom was treating it like [Celeste] was an adult and that she chose it.”

Some Latina women agreed with Dayara that daughters are not safe in Latino households.
One TikTok user wrote: “I’m glad you’re speaking up on this because I found it so telling how the Latino community has been silent in regards to what happened to Celeste Rivas Hernandez. I know if they spoke on it that means they have to confront a bigger issue that will make them uncomfortable and undo their reality.”
Another user wrote: “My mom and dad let me date a 20 year old when I was 14 and my family loveeeed him. They were so annoyed when I broke up with him a year later cus he had a good job. I’m 33 now and have my own daughter and I could never imagine letting that happen.”
Other Latina women reacted negatively to the video. Some women respectfully asked Dayara to take down the video, but she refused.
