R&B superstar Mary J Blige hosted a special screening for her Lifetime movie “Mary J. Blige Presents: Be Happy” at Hearst Tower in New York, NY on Wednesday, February 4.

“Mary J. Blige Presents: Be Happy” stars Tisha Campbell and Houston native Cameron J. Ross, who also wrote the film.
The movie is the first of Mary’s 3-picture deal with Lifetime, as part of the network’s “Love of a Lifetime” winter series.
“Be Happy” is inspired by Mary’s critically acclaimed R&B album, My Life.

The movie follows Val (Tisha Campbell), a 50-year-old empty-nester who struggles with feelings of loneliness and growing emotional distance from her husband Ross (Russell Hornsby). Val begins to realize that her marriage and the woman she once was, may be slipping away. She seeks a new spark in her marriage and finds it after her youngest daughter goes off to college. A chance meeting with a handsome photographer (Mekhi Phifer) in New Orleans awakens the passion and dreams buried inside her.

The TV movie marks the television directorial debut of Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe (Precious, Empire, American Horror Story ).

Be Happy is produced by Mary’s Blue Butterfly Productions and Mona Scott-Young’s Monami Productions, in association with Motion Entertainment and Swirl Films.

Angela White (pictured with Alusain “Al G” Sillah) and Mona Scott-Young serve as producers with Mary as executive producer.
